Finally, I'm done!  The first GB entry I've completed since the 2004 1-weeker.

Dassault-Dornier Alpha Jet Suisse, ordered to Swiss specifications.  Essentially an extensively modified trainer, the rear cockpit has been removed and had avionics and countermeasure systems in place (the details of which are still classified), a laser seeker in the nose, wingtip launchers, a longer nose gear strut, and aerodynamic additions such as winglets on the horizontal stabilizers and small strakes on the nose.  

Intended for use to dart between the mountains, strafing enemy convoys with its 30mm GPU-5/A unit, rockets and bombs, the Alpha Suisse were meant to make life miserable for any enemy foolish enough to invade Switzerland by making travel along Switzerland's roads extremely hazardous.  The lethality of the hit-and-run strike capacity of the Alpha Suisse was demonstrated when they held off several convoys of the US 101st Airborne Division during a combat exercise (much to the embarrassment of the Americans), where they scored multiple "kills" by popping up behind mountains and disappearing soon after.  Coupled with the ability to deploy from practically anywhere in Switzerland that had a straight road of 900ft or more, the Alpha Suisse was one of Dassault-Dornier's greatest success stories.

It's the old Matchbox kit, with the strakes and winglets grafted on (honestly I don't know what they'll do aerodynamically, I just thought it'd look more fierce that way), GPU-5 from a Hase weapons kit, bombs from another Hase weapons kit, rockets from the Italeri NATO weapons set, Matra Magics and rails from an Academy Super Etendard and I raised the nosegear to provide the clearance for the gun pod.  I added a Aeroclub Martin Baker Mk.5 seat (I think it's the Mk.5) to make the cockpit look more interesting (otherwise it's just a black hole, and I couldn't deal with the kit seats).  Grabbed the decals off the Italeri F-5E kit.  It's 11:45pm and I was too tired to deal with messing with the camera to get better shots, so here you are.









For fun I dug out the last 1WKGB I did, a Saudi Typhoon (this was several months before the Saudis announced that they were actually buying it) from 2004.

Mine is done!  Something kind of like an AMT Leif Ericson, but based on a couple of Heller 1/144 Rafale-Ms and other random bits.  More details are at

This was a lot of fun, and the group build kept a very samall fire under my tail long enough to finish a very small model! Overall length is about 5 inches.

Mitsubishi T-4B Iruka, 501 Hikotai, JASDF

Licence built by Mitsubishi Heavy Industries, the Hawk is in service with the JASDF as a basic jet trainer, Lead In Fast jet Trainer, and advanced weapons trainer.  Every front line fast jet squadron also has two each for use as hacks - roles include helping in type conversion, maintaining fast jet currency for pilots on ground tours, incentive rides, target towing and adversary/aggressor missions.

Known as the Iruka (Dolphin) in Japanese service, the versatile Hawk has proved popular, and with the additional orders placed for the T-4B (based upon the Hawk 100), total production in Japan currently stands at 242 airframes.







The model is actually only 95% complete - I still need to do a bit of weathering, a few details and then a flat coat (should get rid of streaky paint finish caused by only 1 application of Klear/Future).  Thanks go to Evan for the Woody Woodpecker decals, and Allan for the help with the Japanese language
