Ok, for those of you who have not read James Huston's Flash Point, you owe it to yourself to go have a look. The book basically boils down to a ancient Islamic assassin order taking on the US, which results in alot of action being flown by VF-103 out in the Med, concluding with an attack on the ancient fortress of Alamut in western Iran. The initial assessment saids that the Navy's GBU-16 or 24's wont penetrate the 100ft thick stone covering, but a -103 pilot gets the idea to mount the Deep Throat (GBU-28) on the F-14s. 2 bombs are rushed to NAF Signonella, built & then loaded onto a COD for the Carrier, then mounted to a pair of F-14s.

This idea hit me when I was considering what exactly to do with this kit, now I have my work cut-out for me: take this kit, convert it into a passable B, add a GBU-28 and then do-up in VF-103 garb  . Thank God for Labor day wkend!

So, I started earlier this evening while waiting for the paint to dry on the F-20, got one of the F-16 nozzles cut down & mounted, and the aft fuselage together. Hopefully by tomorrow I'll have the whole thing together & will only have to worry about the weapon.

And you ask a valid question mi amigo (hope I got that right, I took french instead of spanish in highschool), as to my knowledge there is no GBU-28 in this scale. We'll come back to that, here's the contents of the box. I thought I would have to scratch the chinpod, but the kit stock will work for me.

And here's the "aftermarket" stuff. Most of this stuff was robbed from my stash of Testors' 1/100 diecast kit accessories, with exception to a few items.

Close up, I'm not sure which LGB will be sacrificed to get the look right, but the body of the Deep Throat will be provided by a 1/32 Isracast Python-3 missile body (cut to scale of course).

The LANTERN pod will be scratched from a 48th Hellfire

In an effort to speed things up a bit, I've decided that this kit will be one of my infamous "blue canopy of death" builds.

Got the other nozzle cut & glued on, should kick this thing into gear later on this evening.

Aw just admit it....you can't glue a canopy on w/o getting it all covered in gluey finger prints !

:P

For such a wee bird, just paint the insides all grey, and nobody will know the diference.

Looks like she's gonna be an interesting build, Ves. Looks like a nice little kit as well !

Looks like this one's gonna be kinda close, I've got everything into sub-assemblies at this point, waiting on the 2nd coat of future on the fins to dry before I "bone" em   . Also got the "blue canopy of death" © painted, as well as the burnercans, and the shoulder pylons together. Next is to take care or the filler around the doors, get the intakes & droptanks on, paint & decal.

I think I'm gonna need a vacation after this is all finished

What are compadres for eh? ;)

Ok, Verts are all boned up (had to use a little artistic license on the CVW tailcodes):

And here she is mocked up, note the glove pylons at the bottom of the pic.

Unless one of my nuggets calls me for a chow run, this baby should be done before the deadline tonight.
