Dizzy' would you know if it's different to the Siga Fury ?  Or is it the same kit only reboxed? I've got one of those in the stash --

Got the Fury two weeks ago - it's a decent kit, IMHO a bit pricey for what you get. And it's bigger than you'd expect, the tubby fuselage is deceiving.

Ya...looking back at the box art it does look bigger than I thought ! The tubby fuselage is pretty much the entire length of the aeroplane !

I think I know what you mean Capt, but I'm a little confused

kitnut617,

Nope, it's a new tool kit and puts the old Siga rendering to shame.

Here's what's in the box:

And here's a close up of the main sprue:

It's a typical current generation Valom rendering.  Cleanly moulded, good surface detail, low parts count, and some resin and PE bit to address the finer details.  The canopies are a nice touch with open and closed options offered.  The resin bits do a nice job of the intake trunk and wheels.

I just mean it looks fat from the tip of the intake all the way to the tail end of the pipe !

Not much in that box eh ?

No, very basic kit. IMHO, like all Valom offerings, way overpriced for what you get - but almost always the only alternative for a decent exotic kit. Anyway, got me so far that I bought one, even though for a good deal at an exhibition/trade fair.

To be honest (and I've not seen one 'in the flesh') the plastic for the Fury doesn't look great an advance over the Pegasus Fury.

Which builds nicely as well. Blanked off the intake on mine with a FOD guard but otherwise was an enjoyable build. When we had our "Pegasus" build for one of the shows it was second most popular kit I seem to remember ?

Weaver & all,

The FJ-1 hails from a day when jet engines were not at all that fuel efficient and when air to air refueling was a "highly interesting concept only even remotely practical between aircraft large enough to carry the pumping and receiving gear and the dedicated crewman necessary to operate them."  So, if you wanted decent range on your bird, and your bird was something less than the biggest and heaviest bombers in the world, you stuffed it to the gills with gas tanks.  Hence the portly fuselage of the Fury.  And no few others of the day.

As to the quality and quantity of the bits, yeah, it is a low parts count.  And yes, when first issued they can be somewhat pricey for what's in the box.  That however, is what sales are for!  Careful with that however, as Valom doesn't seem in the business of continually issuing all of its kits over and over again.

I just noted that Valom appear to have released a Vickers Wellesy in 1/72 scale:  http://armoryhobbyshop.com/index.php?route=product/product&product_id=37594

Looks like they have 2, according to their site; http://www.valom.net/index_en.html

I haven't seen any of their kits in the plastic, let alone built any. So, before I think about spending any cash; what is their quality & "ease-of-build" like?
