Lessee...two review kits, one for the airforce gb, the research carrier, a large gato, 300 more samurai soldiers, and a cuban chevy.  Oh yeah, and the show Hind, and a Jamaican transport.

Hey, how is that research carrier coming? I liked that one!


Myself, while there are many partly-builts in the closet, in progress there's really only three:

First is my XFY-1 Pogo on the bench, ready for painting.

Next to the bench in a box is the former NS Savannah, now USS Hudson City, AOEN-5, very nearly ready for the second coat of primer, to be followed by painting the anti-fouling and boot-topping, and then the base coats of deck gray and haze gray. This in turn will be followed by me attempting to cast my own details in two-part resin, and hopefully neither burning nor poisoning myself.  :dum:

I've also a Revell USS Saratoga, CV-60, real world at about the same point, though it doesn't need special parts to be cast other than some aircraft to fill up the big flight deck.

-decalling this Iranian CF-105 with Hi-decals set (from Hannants)

-I've started chopping my old Heller  MB-174.
Its rear fuselage and engines will go onto another MB-174, giving a MB-140 bomber (it would have been a French equivalent of the DH Mosquito had the prototype not been destroyed in June 1940 )

At the moment I'm working on a Whiff Shackleton that includes rudders from an E-2A. The plan is to use the E-2 engines on an Atlantic Br1150 and rotor dome.
With the engines from an old Viking kit these will be fitted to the remains of the E-2, using my spare parts bin a V-tail can be sourced.
An air defence version of the Vigilante and using another Vigi the EW variant with spares from a broken EF-111.
In the pipeline an IDS Tornado in 1/48 scale as a US Navy SEAD. The Mirage IV to have F-4N engines, intakes from a cheap F-111A kit, reconnaissance pod from the TRS-2 and a inflight refueling probe from the Tornado.
To convert a RB-57 into a PR9 using an old Novo kit and Airfix kit.
Straight from the box a 1/144 Boeing 707.
Still haven't got around building the Millennium Falcon released soon after the first Starwars film.

I am just finishing off the TBM-3 AvengerSki for SMW.
Well advanced in my head, and just started on the bench, is the Bede BD-5 in Raspberry Ripple scheme, with the original short wing (4.34M span) and a four bladed prop (courtesy of a Welsh Models 1/144 Jetstream), and most probably ETPS.
Then there are a few for the SCW GB, Jet Shinden, G0-229, P-40N, Beaufighter, and Spitefull.
Then there is ....................................................

-1/72 Do228 Bundesmarine (carrier based COD version, planned for navalise it GB )
-1/72 Focke Wulf FW190T (carrier based fighter version for navalise it GB )
-1/72 SU-15 Flagon (into a Luft46 aircraft, thinking a Blohm & Voss, for alt. luftwaffe GB )
-1/72 Hawk GA.3 (COIN conversion, single Seat version of the Hawk T1 in the same stye as the SU-39 Frogfoot)

Holy thread revival, Batman!

I don't have anything on the whiffing front going at the moment and precious little on the real world front either.

However, at various undetermined points in the future, I'm hoping to get some of the following whiffed up, mostly in 1/72:

RAF Typhoon:
(single or two seater, I'm not fussy) straight from the box and painted standard except with 64 Sqn markings on it.

WWII Soviet navy carrier borne fighters:
I'd like to work out a scenario where the Soviets would play a major part in the carrier war of the Pacific.

Sovietised B-58 Hustler (1/144):
Have tried it twice but been totally unsatisfied at the results. Will try it again sometime.

P-38 Lightning post war variations:
Contra props or five blade single props, turbo prop perhaps. Clipped wings and possibly reworked more streamlined tail fins.

I WILL one day, somehow succeed in whiffing a smoothed out Stuka. I came very close once (unfortunately no pics). I must try again sometime.

I also must get my hands on a 1/72 Gloster Javelin at some point and remake my FAA Sea Javelin. I was quite proud of it but never got a chance to photograph it before it was destroyed.

If you're going to be postwar P-38 variations, consider the one Kelly Johnson wanted to do but was never able.  A new center nacelle like that of the "Lightning Swordfish", radiators and oil coolers relocated to the wing leading edges, and upgraded engines with four- or five-bladed props (perhaps Griffons with superchargers added?).  Alternatively, a navalized equivalent of this with R2800s or R3520s.

That was actually something I was considering if I stayed with piston power. I actually was thinking about putting the radiators and oil coolers in the wings and trying to marry up a pair of Bristol Centaurus radials with five blade props to it or possibly Griffons with contra props.

I'll check out the Lightning Swordfish you mentioned too, as I've never actually heard of it.

Having seen other projects using a 1/72 E-2 Hawkeye and the arrival of the cockpit update by Hannants. The Hawkeye will become a civilian airline.
The rotordome from the E-2 will sit proudly on the 1/72 Atlantic.
The 1/72 P-3 will get the AEW parts from the Shackleton. Known as the P-3ICU'Jimi'!!

This should me well into the new year. Happy new year to you all.

Just had another idea for the F-111 1/48. By adding the speys and two side windows behind the main cockpit I could turn it into a FB-111M3. I think I read somewhere that the RAF drew up plans to make the
F-111 a three seater by removing the escape pod and having three ejector seats.
The Hawkeye 1/72 will be returned to its former self minus the rotordome, as the  Br1150 Atlantic will get that.
The P-3 Orion 1/72 will get the AEW radar dome I was saving for the Shackleton.

Since I didn't participate in the Spatbuild, tonight I just ordered a 1/48 Ki-27 Nate with the plan to make it open cockpit and revise the tail empennage and main wing.   It will be an attempt to make it represent an early Nate prototype or design study.   With all the recessed riveting on the ex-Mania kit, I'll have some extra work cut out for me but the LHS has started to carry Mr. Dissolved Putty.  It might be a good exercise in materials usage.
