Comrades!

our brothers in arms based on our magnificent carriers will be requiring supplies and letters from their loved ones, will they not?

may i suggest that the yahovlev design bureau has a suitable aircraft for this purpose - the Yak-40. In production from 1967 to 1983 the aircraft fits our timeline perfectly.

Not only does the straight wing give impressive take off performance (especially when coupled with the three fine communist engines that power this fine plane), but being straight they can be folded maybe twice to save on space?

possibly a MAD boom and torpedo/sonobouy/depthcharge/asm equipped version would be suitable for ASW and patrol work? The third engine could be shut down after takeoff to improve endurance, and extra fuel would easily fit inside the fuselage.

the yak-40k?

(permit me this one western capitalist yearning comrades: - does the decadent nimrod not carry sidewinder missiles for self defence? it would not be beyond belief to arm the yak-40k with atoll or archer aam's for some self defence?)

maybe the yak-40 would be suitable as an AEW/Elint platform also? Either with a dish radome similar to that sported by the inferior "hawkeye", or with hinged folding radomes at the nose and tail, as in the cancelled, but promising nimrod AEW).

your thoughts. comrades, would be appreciated, as my think tank has been working late into the night (upon pain of transportation to the gulags) considering these advances in soviet aviation.

For the Motherland, my comrades!

If I might suggest a method of folding wings, we could "reverse" engineer the wing fold on the imperialist TBF Avenger.  The wings would rotate and go forward, thus eliminating the need for a second fold and the aossicated weight.

Major Lacombski,

Truly your idea regarding the wing folding is an ingenious one - i will get my OKB onto the matter immediately - in the meantime, i wish to share the blueprints that my workers have submitted to me, for the approval of the soviet.

Comrade,

was this the kit of which you speak?

a veritable bargain at only 12 of the decadent yanqui dollars!

You've got me thinking now, I thought it was a 1/72 kit but it was only in a bag

Comrade retrovitch_seventski!!

This general arangement drawing is fine, except for the wing fold.  Our ships are not that tall!  I would suggest using a decadent Airfix Firefly kit to get the correct wing fold!

How about a three part folding wing like on the Gannet

Comrade Major Lacombski and my other esteemed comrades,

whilst the diagram attached was only to give an idea of the placement of the wing fold, i can understand your concern - rest assured that the designers at my OKB are facing a long spell at the salt mines if they do not produce an appropriate drawing soon.

comrade aircavpinkteamski has suggested that we fold the wings in the style of the aptly named "gannet" - i concur that is not only a great space saver, but easier for my poor overworked OKB than the "avenger" style wing fold - besides, would a wing of this size, and containing fuel not be a little heavy for this style of space saving?

yours in service of the Rodina,

Hi' Ben,
why not make the MAD boom as part of the T-tail fairing at the top of the tail

All the best

It wouldn't pose a problem to Avenger the wings.  It will be lighter than having three fold, and such an option would forbid the use of a wet wing!

You can always attach small wheels on the wing tips when the Yak-40K is safely down on the carrier deck to alleviate the load.

Comrade Major Lacombski,

it would seem that again you have outfoxed my pathetic designers - western tainted cretins that they are, they seem to prefer the "gannet" style wing - rest assured i will "re-educate" them overnight, and new plans will be forthcoming presently.

Comrade aircavpinkteamski, your idea has great merit, and will be incorporated in the next blueprints - the motherland thanks you for your input.

Comrades! Truly in the spirit of marxist-leninist socialism, this is aircraft design by commitee is it not!

until later, here is the unfortunate blueprint passed to me by my now fired head designer on this project.

I like your ways!  For your personnal information, the mighty Bear Foxtrot is fitted with a MAD boom on top of the fin.

Comrade Major Lacombski,

Indeed i was aware of the configuration the the glorious Bear F, but was unsure, from a purely aesthetic point of view (please forgive me) that a similar arrangement would be suitable for the Yak-40k.

Following re-education, my staff have performed sufficiently well to merit the posting of their latest modification to the Yak-40k.

I trust that the improvements made meet with the approval of the naval committee, and assure you comrades, that any and all input from my socialist brothers will be met with open arms.

Onwards to victory comrades!

Excellent comrade!

As a tip from a seasoned pilot and design consultant, I suggest the Airfix Firefly V as a basis for your wingfold, since this kit already has this feature implemented.  Just steel the parts that lock the wings in the folded position, but keep in mind to fold them forward!

To see a model of the Yak-40K with the wings folded in this manner would please my socialist heart very much!
