One more for the cool Army trucks thread, this time an MB-2 tractor.

At the Museum, we used it to haul around our bigger fighters, like the F-101 and the F-14, but it's capable of towing a B-52 or similar large aircraft.

Honestly, I like these (happen to be made by the BAE office down the road (the cab at least)  )

FMTV with armored cab

Great thing about this armored cab is the story that the engineering manager tells.  There was a convoy in Iraq, and the trucks had these on them.  One was hit by an IED just behind the cab.  The truck was blown apart, but the cab flew off and rolled a few times, coming to rest upright in a ditch.  The crew climbed out the top of the cab, no injuries.

The cab is fabricated here, then sent overseas where the original cab is removed, and this one can be put in place.  It's got all the connections ready to go.

Also, can't forget accessories for trucks!

High speed mine-roller used as part of a USMC convoy in Iraq

This thing went from approval to in theater in 57 days, and has already saved over 100 lives.  It's the only high speed mine-roller (can go over 60mph) out there.  This one is actually my boss' program.  His favorite story is the first lives saved by one were on Christmas Eve, 2006.  A Humvee with one attached hit an IED.  The mine-roller was destroyed, but the Humvee drove out of the crater, with no injuries to the occupants.

We've actually got the above pic (minus the day-glow orange tarp) framed and hung on our walls in the office.
I exist to pi$$ others off!!!

My favourites:

Dana Howitzer, based on a Tatra 815 8x8 truck chasis

Humber Pig, based on a Humber FV1600 1 Ton Truck chasis

An it's anti-tank stablemate, the Humber Hornet toting Malkara missiles
I don't think it's nice, you laughin'. You see, my mule don't like people laughin'. He gets the crazy idea you're laughin' at him. Now if you apologize, like I know you're going to, I might convince him that you really didn't mean it.

No Alvis Stalwart or Unimog fans here?

This is a U.S. Army version

Yeah,I know the load is late. But the voices keep telling me to pull over and clean the guns.

Great shots, Zod ! Love the Stalwart....one of my favourite toy cars as a kid.

Anatoly.....Kurly and I saw those things near Selfridge last fall. Way cool !

Here's a truck I spotted in a field while we were working today. Talk about rough ! Closer investigation reveals that it was a former Village of Point Edward Municipal Truck, and before that, it worked for the USAF ! Built in Lansing, MI.

Talk about thread resurrection!  I spotted this thing on the tarmac at Oceana last weekend.  It wasn't a display, as such, but rather a working machine, but I couldn't find anyone who could/would identify it.  I've seen similar on the ANG base at CLT, but again, no one would tell me what it was.

Deuce and a half's and dragon wagons, really bring back some memories.  I took many a lumpy ride in those things. . .

That's cool there's a 1/48 kit of them.  I had no idea.  As nice as the little 1/72 armor kits, I imagine that's a nice little build.  Gotta get one, I guess. . . :tank:

Scooterman

Ah yes, a K-Loader.  Seen many in my USAF days.  They can raise the cargo area to reach whatever height threy need to load various transports.  The cab is offset so to get a clear shot into a aircraft's hold.  IIRC that cab got VERY close to the petal doors on my C-141........

I have a whole lot of first hand experience with K-Loaders. They are fun to drive down the street with traffic...I've had to stop, raise the bed (cab is attached to the bed) to let a larger vehicle pass under the cab because the street wasn't wide enough for us to pass each other. This is me unloading pallets off an aircraft.

Its not the workbench that makes the model, it is the modeler at the workbench.
