Close, but no cigar?  NO--Give that man a cigar!

Yes. Really, not much else need be done. Now this "early Skyraider" can attack escorted by my "early Bearcat" whif. Just because I like it, I may do it in "Summer of '43" camo and markings, and MAYBE with "8-T-whatever" on the side. However "right" it might be, I think I will move the cockpit back slightly (pic below) to give more "balance" to the profile (not so much tail).

Thanks for that profile!

I will duplicate this for the SBD thread.
My mind is like a compost heap: both "fertile" and "rotten"!

Two XSB2D-1 were completed and two of the BTD-1 were modified into XBTD-2s by the addition of a 1,500 lb thrust Westinghouse WE-19XE turbojet in the rear fuselage. The fuel tank for the jet engine was carried in the bomb-bay. Testing was disappointing as the hoped for performance gains were not attained. The success of the XBT2D-1 (later redesignated AD-1) was the end of the BTD series.

There are a few aircraft which just don't do it for me and this is one of them.  I could never understand the thinking behind it, to me it's just plain ugly too.

The U S Navy asked for a straight extension of the Scout Bomber concept in a more powerful, up-to-date aircraft and Douglas gave them what they requested.
Of course by the time it became metal the USN had changed its mind and wanted single-seat attack aircraft.

Has anybody explored how crazy it would have looked to contemplate a Skyraider-based autogyro in a configuration like that of the Cierva C.30?

(Was thinking of an AD-1/3/4/5W-based AEW autogyro...... am I evil?)
To the individual soldiers, *everything* is a frontal assault!

This subject was discussed off and on previously but I don't recall anyone providing images of the Mk.1 Mod 0 Toilet that was rigged for carriage by the Skyraider from Attack Squadron 25.  There are a number of screen captures and hand held photography of the toilet attached to the Skyraider prior to launch from the USS Midway (CVA-41) at this link: VA-25's Toilet Bomb

The box art from the special issue Hasegawa Skyraider kit are also included on that page.

What about a FedEx/UPS/Name your mail carrier aircraft based on the A-1E? It has plenty of room for cargo and at most all the plane needs is two crewmen to run it.

GINge!

I like the idea of an RCN Skyraider! Something the RCN might have bought instead of the Sea Fury and Avenger. The Sandy could probably have done the missions that both of those aircraft did.

I was searching for information about the Air Force OA-X program, when I ran across the following image.  It's a Skyraider with a turboprop engine and RAN markings.

Alas, that was the only image.  I found the original post on a forum for aircrew of the OH-58 Kiowa.  The poster there didn't mention where he got it from, or who created it.

EDIT: I take that back.  I did a quick Google Image search for "turboprop Skyraider" and turned up the webpage of the artist, Greg Plummer.

He's also got a Corsair floatplane, a Shinden racer and some other whiffs.
