I've had a look at lots of AEW.1 pics, and none of them seem to have it.

Some of my models can be found on my Flickr album >>>HERE<<<

Interestingly today I found that there is a kit of the Swedish Skyraider available - it is an old one but is still available if you know where to look:

It would be interesting to know if the kit has this fitment.

Not that I recall -- I've built this one in the past. It is basically the same as the RN AD-4W without the big belly radome.

I believe the RW Swedish was, as the box art suggests, a conversion of the AD-4W.  Jeremy would be correct in the most noticeable feature between the two being a lack of radome.

I believe I have the Swedish Spad variant for Flight Sim, in storage. I'll load it up and get some screencaps.

We seem to be assuming that it might be a common fitment across the fleet.  It may be a one off just to that aircraft for some obscure purpose.

According to Squadron's 'A-1 Skyraider' in action, 64 AD-4Ws were built.  They were rather more than just equipment added to the baseline AD-4.  The electronics operator's station within the fuselage and its entrance door were quite different from the basic AD airframe, more akin to the night-attack configured AD-4N.

According to this site: http://www.planesandchoppers.com/picture/number11546.asp the Swedish machines were modified from Royal Navy AEW.1s, these themselves originally USN machines, being modified with target-towing equipment and sold on to Sweden in 1963.

The upper fuselage and canopy are different as well. It still has the ventral airbrake, although the side airbrakes are absent. The Swedish machines also had additional bubble windows in the sides to allow the winch operators (seated in the fuselage) to look behind the aircraft. I did manage to grab a screenshot of the Swedish AD-4W (registered SE-EBB) that comes with the RAZBAM "The Skyraiders - Part 2" Flight Sim X pack:

This pack has the AD-1/3/4/4W/6/7 (AD-4Ws are the AEW.1 and the Swedish machine), as well as French A-1Ds (France, Chad and Gabon), and USAF and VNAF A-1Hs and Js. Although it's for FSX, it works just fine in FS9 with some tweaks. It has a fantastic R3350 sound pack, by the way.

Magic, I'll take two then......  ;D
Kit's Rule 1 ) Any aircraft can be improved by fitting longer wings, and/or a longer fuselage
Kit's Rule 2) The backstory can always be changed to suit the model

...and I'm not a closeted 'Take That' fan, I'm a REAL fan! :)

I know that plane!  It was based out of Linden Airport (KLDJ) (One of America's most dangerous GA airports), Linden NJ for many years, did several Sussex Cty Airshows.  At one time, it was equipped with butane jets in the gunports.

As I have a spare monogram A-1H kicking around, any ideas for it? What i'm thinking is either late '44-'45 tri-color or flat sea blue. Any other ideas?

Maverick

I've got quite a few alternates in my Photobucket account that might give inspiration.

Hadn't the tri-color scheme been discontinued & replaced with overall dark blue by then anyway?

I 2nd Mav's suggestion. He has done a great job of creating alternate user profiles.

RCN or RCAF are always good schemes.  ;)
