For various reasons, there's a dire lack of Italian uber-fighters, so I've shelved the compound Lavochkin indefinitely. The Razzo is intended to be an ultra-high altitude fighter with a turbocharged jumo engine. During the preliminary stages of construction, I've developed an appreciation for the Macchi's elegant curves and streamlined fuselage... and thuroughly ruined it.

So far I've grafted the nose of an FW 190D onto a C.205. Both kits are italeri 1/72, the latter appears to be a good kit but the former is a pretty lousy one with a fat nose and poor detail -perfect for kitbashing.

I intend to eventually:

Replace exhausts with sanded-sprue tubing running all over the place

Put bigger ventral radiator to suggest under-fuselage turbo and perhaps aftercooler.

Dorsal fin fillet.

Co-belligerent or Luftwaffe markings, painted sky blue over gray.

Increased-span wings and lengthened rear fuselage have been currently filed under THWD(Too hard, won't do.)

This one has the potential to make whiff history, Goober! You're off to a wonderful start by "ruining" the Macchi's classic lines and I applaud your efforts! That large Jumo engine adds a very pugnacious look to this bird. This is a great concept and I'm going to enjoy watching you bring it to completion.

Oh are you ever on to something!    Blending the Macchi cowling onto the F/W cowling and reducing the bulges might really work well.

It looks great so far, nothing's ruined in my opinion.

A bit of an update:

New wingtips from an Me 410's horizontal tail surfaces and props from a Ju 188 kit.

Reversing the direction of one propeller was fun...

The turbocharger will be located under and after of the wing, to balance out some of that noseweight, like below.

Woahhhh!!! That's awesome, goober! I love what you're doing to that prop!

I just had a stroke of insanity.

Consider this problem:

You've got B-29s or some other high-altitude threat coming over your city. You've got some interceptors with big beefy engines but they still can't get up to altitude in time because Tony the radar guy has been sleeping on the job. Worse still, the big heavy rockets, power boosting chemicals, and drop tanks are making the damned planes even heavier and harder to taxi on muddy landing strips. Whatever should you do?

The answer:

Jettesonable ROCKET SPATS!

I'll get to workin' on them.

Goober

A truly wonderful brainwave you have there and

I just love the extended wing tips.

I'll be watching this one very closely indeed.

Can't wait to see what color scheme you choose.

B-29 kill markings anywhere?

wolfik

a real killing idea!!!I would make another vertical stab because the "extra" power of the engine...
