That does look VERY good, very Campbell-Breedlove-Arfons inspired.

Go on H, build it!

Hmm - the artist has done some prettyfication work on the nose, making it longer and less upswept than on the real thing. Having looked at the kit fuselage, it's a good deal less elegant without a good deal of work.

I tghought so, too, when I saw the artwork - the fuselage looks pretty slimmed-down (or is it the lowered canopy?), the real thing is rather bulky. Nevertheless, a very nice concept. And another confirmation that we might need a Racing! GB in the future.  ;)

The aircraft planned for the conversion was FR.5 WK277

WK277 is the Swift in the Newark Air Museum.

Looking at the drawing and Swift images, what about flipping the nose 180 around the centreline?

You can't do that, silly!  The nosewheel would be pointing straight up!  That'd be no use at all, unless you were landing upside down!   ;D ;D

Are you related to my eldest daughter?

She once built an early Airfix Spitfire IX (In fetching shades of green, blue and pink...) but with the wings swapped over so that the wheels pointed UP alongside the cockpit.

I suggested that it'd work better with them on the bottom to which she replied, with a VERY scornful look 'But how would the pilot KNOW they if they were up or down if he couldn't see them Daddy???'  ;D ;D

The obvious pragmatic solution is to have wheels on the top AND the bottom so it doesn't matter which way up you are when you land. Simples!

The discussion of upside-down undercarriage has inspired me to recreate my Very Bad Ideas thread here:

Enjoy....

I have issues with the look of the Swift.
Specifically the nose and the rudder.
AndrewJ has vastly improved the look of the nose with his F7N (http://www.whatifmodellers.com/index.php/topic,45238.msg809471.html#msg809471) but IMO either the rudder needs lengthening or the fin needs moving backwards.
I have done a highly detailed technical drawing showing my ideas.  The belly tank would also be left off and so should be ignored.

- Can't be bothered to do the proper research and get it right.

Another ill conceived, lazily thought out, crudely executed and badly painted piece of half arsed what-if modelling muppetry from zenrat industries.

Nice concept!

Some area-ruling to the fuselage would be cool, too, but that's probably too complicated to realize.

jcf

Area-rule improvement using the same add-on method tested on a Canadair CL-13 Sabre, perhaps?

The leading edge wing-body fairing used on the 545 developed from the Swift would also help.

What was the end result of that test Jon ?

See the revised Swift design that never flew, the Type 545.

No improvement in performance, returned to standard config.
