QuoteMartin, when you glue the top fuselage to the air duct/engine, do you fill the gap on the sides so it has a vertical side or is there a curved blending to it? Another question, was this a true VTOL aircraft?

Robert
Hi Robert

I think there is a blending of the fuselage pod to the engine pod from what o recall, but i would need to check my references. Also not shown in Martins is that the section aft of main exhaust should be like a pen knib (Martin actually used one of his rejects to build the test shot so the tip of his upper fuselage was broken !).

Van the Airfix F-15's have options for single seater and tandem seater with different canopies so thats a ready source, however my original did use the Airfix EFA with a rear coaming from a drop tank.

Thanks Geoff,

Talking about the pen nib, was it hollowed out underneath so it had a concave look to it.  I was thinking it would have to match the turkey tails of the nozzle when it was fully open and the jet blast.

What I would like to see Martin if it's possible, a close up photo of how you blended the top fuselage to the bottom.  Geoff said it's sort of blended in a radius.

my one isnt blended, its slab sided to be honest, but geoff's original scratch build is, I Belive blended. Plus its not an area that easy to get into for photos with out breaking the  model.

there is a slight inwards curve from the top of the lower pod on some front view drawings, nothing to fancy thou. i wouldnt have thiought that it would be to difficult to file/sand it to a suitable curve once filler has been allowed to dry solid.
I always hope for the best.

A very small amount of progress-I finally plucked up courage to have a go at finding a way of fixing the wings to the fuselage. I marked out the parts-drilled and installed some fine brass rod. I then decided that fir ease of assembly I'd do more work to the wings-so the booms are on and large quantities of milliput used to fill the gaps. In the  period since I last posted a picture of my 1216 this I've built a Meteor F.8, Vought Cutlass and a Mig 17 all real world.
Yes I know the wings are upside down

Slow progress continues.....

I will post a picture of mine later.  The only issue I have is the canopy.  I have the F-15 main canopy but nothing which will fit the front of it.  :banghead:
Currently working on a P.1216

As promised.  A shot of progress so far.

ref the front end of the canopy, the master for the upper pod was built useing yee olde Esci Eurofighter, so the screen from that kit is a perfect fit, but considering that kit is like hens teeth to find these days..........
On my one i used a canopy from the Revell EFA kit of the same vintage as the Esci one, not perfect by any means but useable.
I always hope for the best.
