The B model shown needs work to correct errors (those lift fan doors for one), but still could be fun for some in-house knowledge super detailing (secrecy and other rules permitting).

What are the issues with the lift fan doors on that moulding? Are they off the X-35 as shown?
Kit's Rule 1 ) Any aircraft can be improved by fitting longer wings, and/or a longer fuselage
Kit's Rule 2) The backstory can always be changed to suit the model

Bluntly, yes.  The F-35B lift fan door is aft hinged, very much like the lift jet doors on the Yak-38 and Yak-41.  There are also some profile changes that this build-up doesn't seem to have.  Too, the canopy on this build-up appears to be a glued-together example of the X-35 canopy as the production canopy does not have the external frames shown; there's a thiner internal frame but not that large external frame.  I'd almost think this was a slightly modified kit of the X-35B to represent a F-35B.

From what I've read about the Lindbergh 'coming attractions' on other sites is that none of
what they displayed at the shows was the actual product. Rather it was a collection of mock-ups
from existing models and commissioned scratchbuilds.

(This post is a copy of the one for the He-111 thread)

I have the old one, a REALLY old one with "Cellovision" see-thru packaging, a "trading card" to cut out of the box, and a $.98 price stamped on the box. The scale works out to be 1/62, based on the fuselage length (NOT 1/72 as touted). The Italeri and Roden kits are "true" 1/72 are are a bit dwarfed by the Lindberg He-111 (that's why I am going to use it in my He-211 Phoenix re-build whif)

As I compare the two, the re-issued one looks identical to the old one, EXCEPT:

It is molded in white plastic instead of the pea-soup green of nearly all the old Lindberg models. Still with a bit of flash to scrape off, but not any more or less than the old one.

The pilot, bombardier, and top gunner figures of the old kit are NOT included in the new one, though they are shown on the instruction sheet. I compared the sprues of the old Lindberg to the new, and some of the sprues have been re-arranged. The crew (including separate arms for the bombardier and gunner) has been deleted on the re-issue. However, the "guy pulling the engine cart" is still there. A few of the pieces, notably the horizontal stabilizer, are a bit warped. The decals are different, and the letters don't correspond to any Geschwader markings I know.

The new one also cost TWENTY-THREE times as much as the old one, at about $22.50 USD from Squadron (and that was "discounted").
My mind is like a compost heap: both "fertile" and "rotten"!

At last, I can make an accurate Wasp Spearhead bomber or SL6 supersonic airliner from Fireball XL5! Only kidding, as if I make anything anyway. The Lindberg B-58 Hustler was the donor kit for the Gerry Anderson studio models. Modelling the 21st Century v.2 features articles on how to build them from the Lindberg kit, which is probably the best thing for it.

My thinking exactly!

Sweet ! I'd love to see some of them built as such, and I'd like to get all three kits for myself !

Blimey, I built the Hustler and LCI kits back in the 60s!  :o

Lindbergh production/availability is much improved following their acquisition by Round2.

Just a random idea: this Lindberg SCB-125 Essex class carrier seems to be reasonably cheap:

Unfortunately, it's 1/900th scale, which would make it difficult to whiff it with widely available 1/700th aircraft and accessories. HOWEVER, I've just done the maths, and if you were to scaleorama the whole thing to 1/700th, it would come out at 690ft long, which is about the size of a British Colossus class light fleet carrier. Granted you'd have to pay a lot of attention to scaling all the details too, but it seems viable, particularly if the finished model is going to be of an entirely ficticious class anyway. Where else are you going to get a small angled-deck hull anyway?

It's even got a Brit type bow too, well, almost anyway.

No kidding, there is a real gap for 1/700 Colossus class- I have scratch built two for WHIF purposes.

Ex-Melbourne in Falklands service:

Under construction next to a 1/700 Essex.

Ex Melbourne and ex Virrant in Soviet Service next to an Essex.  A bit beat up from storage.
