They were certainly looking at it - but several nations would still like their own.  NATO has E-3s, but Britain and France still have their own AWACS.  Turkey were/are pursuing their own as well.

I might be interested in this beast.......

Soviet?

USAAF-retro?
Japanese?
BOAC?

Any ideas or colour profiles?

Queen's Flight, to transport the royal motorcade
Heavylift (to replace the Belfast)

There's been a discussion of this before, with suggestions in the vein of Royal Mail, FedEx, Stobart etc. There were profiles, too.

Drawdecals actually had samples of FedEx and other Civil C-17 Whif Schemes at Telford.
Did suggest Heavy Lift as a potential scheme.

Howabout RAF Retro Rad ?

Transport Command white over grey with blue lightning cheat line
Air Support Command in the MEAF camo scheme as per Beverley/hercules etc

(Note TwoSix decals do both schemes in 1/144 ;D)
Project Cancelled SIG Secretary, specialising in post war British RN warships, RN and RAF aircraft projects. Also USN and Russian warships

The MEAF two toner sounds a good idea!!
The civil schemes don't sound too exciting, except I've some Air Atlantic decals in 1/144th

A SAR scheme could look bright too.

The Meteorolgical Research Flight retired W.2 Snoopy a few years back.  How about a C-17 replacement in nice bright colours, maybe even Raspberry Ripple?

EDIT, kind of, thread got swapped while I was posting & I got confused thinking I'd put this in the wrong thread, which I hadn't, so I removed it & now I've realised whats happened so it's back now, so this is now suggested twice in this thread but to two different people.

I don't think it's nice, you laughin'. You see, my mule don't like people laughin'. He gets the crazy idea you're laughin' at him. Now if you apologize, like I know you're going to, I might convince him that you really didn't mean it.

Ya could stretch the fuselage a little or convert it into a Airbus M400  ;D

if anyone is watching Agents of SHIELD over on Channel 4 right now, you might have noticed the 6-engines triplane configured C-17

yer saw that and also thought its a must build, but looking closer at it, i say it is  a larger aircraft mabe a c5m  with new wings etc

Definitely not a C5M, the way the nose is shaped and how the nose gear is, that's an Airbus A380 and the tail is an Airbus A400M
If I'm not building models, I'm out riding my dirtbike

McColm

Change the wings seems like a good idea .I'm using the 1/96 scale wings from a Frog DH Comet MK 4.
You could try using the Revell 1/144   Tu-95 Bear wings .I'll see if the C-17 wings fit the Bear.

dont think a c 17 will do this thinking about using a revell Antonov-124 "RUSLAN" rear  and a airbus 380 front end and power plants

"The Bus" its definitly a C-17 derivative
