Further to being in on this, I have decided that my build will be a completely 'scratch-built' entry.  The only items taken from other kits will be ancillary items like landing gear or maybe internal components such as an engine or weapons.

I don't think it's nice, you laughin'. You see, my mule don't like people laughin'. He gets the crazy idea you're laughin' at him. Now if you apologize, like I know you're going to, I might convince him that you really didn't mean it.

I have to interject one thing about this GB. I don't particularly care for unmanned combat vehicles(althoguh there are some scenarios where I don't mind keeping soldier's out of harm's way), this GB could open up a whole range of possibilites. Even if you hate UCV's with every ounce of your being, they're easier than hell to build. Take a 1/72 kit, sand down the canopy and paint it the same color as the rest of the airframe, and you have a 1/48 UCV. I have a feeling this GB could get a lot of late entries and quick builds for that exact reason. You don't have to put any detail on the inside. At all, really. Build it gear up and mount it to a stick, paint it all over single-shade gray. There you go. Sorry for the rant, I just really want this GB to get a go and I wanted to help make the case.

Boo-Ya! I'm in!  Got the perfect kit too.  It's.........

Not for public viewing.  Yet!

QuoteMmmmm, intrigued!

I thought you might be.  It may end up with similar detail to this:

BTW, I thought I might as well also post one of my all time favourite UCAS pictures:

QuoteAs a non-Uwhateveruwannacallit fan in the real world, I tend to look at them from scale-o-rama point of view as manned units, but then that's me. :P
Funnily enough John, while looking for some ideas, I had that same thought, ironic since I was looking for the opposite!  I realised that you could take Unicrafts 1/48 X-36, scratch some new wings, add an engine from the Revell X-35 kit & you'd have a 1/144 version of McDD's JAST entry.  Expensive for such a tiny kit though.

Greg, I know you tend to work in 1/48, but Unicraft do an X-47A if it's any help:

While I'm on about Unicraft, they have a good selection of UAV's:

BTW, who said anything about UCASs being new ideas - have a look at this concept from 1944:

I'm a non-uav fan, but frankly the idea of a retro-uav like that sounds damned cool. Mabye an automaton B-29 as a high altitude nuclear "cruise missile" or a USN Ventura or Harpoon(from the picture) all blacked out, loaded with incindiary bombs, and with a towed fuel tank instead of a glide bomb.

Count me in!

(edit)
Here's another idea, take a war weary early model spitfire, hurricane, kitty/warhawk, rip out the guns and put an fancy schmancy vacum-tube and sprokets autopilot in the cockpit and use it as a recon automaton.

Send it on a preset course, take some pretty pictures from the various cameras, and go home to bellyland or ditch in water to hopefully be retrieved right away.

Yes, I'm stealing an idea now. mwhahaha

Turn your favorite tank, or plane, into a UCXX. I'm thinking you could do one GB for landbased vehicles and another for aircraft.
