Hi guys and gals!!!

This is my last adventure, a model inspired by Bell-Boeing's QTR (Quad Tilt-Rotor), the successor to V-22.

I call it StormWind, and this is what it looks like:

It is mainly made of paper.

Enjoy!!!

BEHIND THE SCENES.......

Found a couple (well, more than a couple) photos of the subject:

Went to town in my unassembled AC-130

Covered it with old newspapers clippings, all wetted in a solution  of 2 parts white glue+1 part water

This is what you get:

With the other half....

Primered for the first time

Then made the engines and prop spinners from the ones in a 1/72 kit V-22. They were cast in auto body repair resin in plasticine molds

That's what you get

The two sets of wings come from V-22 kits in 1/72 and 1/48

These are the resin+balsa engines

Then it was coverd in bondo auto body putty and sanded untill my arms fell off

That was all.

FUN, Isn't it?!!

When I saw QTR in the title block, I thought 'might be something quite small'.  Yipes, she's not even close, it's a 'normal' scale!!  Ay caramba Rafa, once again, the Scratchbuilding God of Venezuela does it again.

Wow is that cool Rafa! I'm bowled over by your imaginative materials and methods. I would be hard pressed to do anything comperable with similar materials. Amazing!

All paper! Never thought of that...

That's really cool, Rafa!

Can you coat the inside of the newspaper mold with the auto repair resin, then peel the newspaper off the resin? It might make it more durable.

Frank

Rafael

Thaks for your comments, gents, this was really, really fun to do.

Frank, you won´t believe it. I was thinking in applying that resin coat, but the end result is as hard as plastic!!!. You can nock on it and hear a solid thud.

Very impressive   I may try this technique myself - it looks as if it could produce interesting results

And is a very practical "poor man's resin-cast without resin" for large parts like fuselages. And the end result is hard like plastic.

I have to mention that this model is only 3 paper layers thick, almost like the average plastic model thickness.

The wings have no load-bearing structure inside, and there's no apparent sag or deformation from carrying the engines outboard. I even pushed the engines down a little and the wing didn´t come off or warped.

Completely in awe of your ability to bend and shape any material to your will.
