Hi All
Not a lot of progress made to the models on this build what with the spatz and hovertankette efforts, but I have given the crane it`s base coat and working on the dio elements.

Not sure yet wether this is going to be an internal dio like the 163 or outside the factory as the idea of camo`ing the building is intresting.
Any way at least I`m still interested enough to carry on and not shelve it for a few months.
regards to all

Yowsa that's impressive, HOG. I really like the tarp on the rear fuse of the Natter on the left. I also like how one of them has yellow markings and the other red. A real eye catcher. You sure like epic projects, don't you?

Wow, that is coming together nicely. Good job.

Hi All
Thanks for the kind words,

Ed S Thanks and welcome to the fun house, I`ve been here around about 6 months and found it very easy to get comftable and nestle in.
BdB Trouble is it should be the M52 (with yellow markings) in a finished state and the M55 (in resd) being built.

ps Does anybody know what " KEEP CLEAR" would translate to in German?. It`s to go either side of the doors.

Really well done! I have a friend over there, I'll ask him.

Hi All

Frank, Thanks for the quick reply but not quite what I need and will try to explain my needs more fully.

The idea is that the gate/door folds inwards in two halves. The section `a` folds face inwards towards the wall, while the section `a1` folds outer face to outer face against this so opening fully and repeated for the right hand side.

The signage would go to both walls either side of the door.
Thanks for any help
Regards Gary

According to the SDL Free Translation website the best translation is: Aufenthalt Reinigen. I used "Stay Clear" instead of "Keep Clear" as it translated the latter using the German word for clarity, as in understood ("Klar?"). "Halten Sie Fern!" would work as that means Keep Away. Hopefully you'll get confirmation from a native speacher of Hoch Deutsch.

I really like your work on the walls and doors. I don't know if I'd have the patience to do small-scale carpentry like that. I'm very impressed.

Thanks Brian, I know from my days when I used to work for Beatties in the model railway dept that German has a variety of languages involved in itself, spoken German as oppossed to technical German and I didn`t trust my small German-English dictionary.

As for the small scale carpentry, who needs mortise and tenon joints when I`ve got superglue ;D, but it`s wood and my bugbears still working against me with the wood splitting and trying to get a straight cut against the dreaded grain  :banghead:
Thanks again
regards Gary

Edit
An afterthought. At the moment the dio` base is looking a bit bland in greys and browns, and I thought a really worn painted floor with the cement showing through might make it a bit more lively, but does anyone know if floor paints and sealers existed in the 40`s?
Cheers Gary

'Aufenthalt Reinigen' is wrong, "Reinigen" means to keep clean/to clean up. My German isn't good enough to know the correct phrase, though.

Thanks for the clarification, Harro. My knowledge of Deutsch is only enough to order a meal and a drink and maybe find the WC. It looks like the translation for Keep Away would be best. It's interesting how some phrases don't necessarily translate exactly to another language.

hi
about Stay Clear/Keep Away. on german airfields is a plate with the words "BITTE FERNHALTEN" (please keep clear) or better "BITTE ABSTAND BEWAHREN" when its to dangerous or forbidden to be to near of such a thing/building.

oh! I read the complete story. <keep <clear on the doors would be in german TORE FREIHALTEN (keep the gates free)
or another sample would be BITTE FREIHALTEN but your dio is timed during the ww2 and during this time was the military sound more "Prussian" as you know and the word PLEASE (BITTE ) was used ...rather seldom :)
hope this helps ! :)
when any more info needed email me directly ok? <_<
by the way! a very good work ! it looks very german! please dont let here and there any cloth or flannel...they are germans my dear...and any violation to the safety regulations was hardly punished

Heyo All,
Firstus A BIG thankyou Peter, I may take you up on that offer in future.

Secundus Some good stuff and some bad stuff. Quite happy with the door furniture, been awhile since I had to do anything this big and even now I don`t think I did it justice.

Wanted to add somthing with with height to break up that back wall and a pipe seemed obvious, now add some wiring, a fire bell maybe and should give some reasonable detailing as I dont have room for the benches and tools that I first invisioned.

Now the floor. I decided to go ahead with trying to add a little colour to the dio`. Any other colour might have worked. But not red. Now I have the design prop for "The Chainsaw Massacre Valentines Day Shootout at the OK Coral colliding with Godzilla meets Aliens meets Freddy meets Predator Bean Fest. It just looks like blood everywhere.

It`s gotta go just don`t really know yet wether to just do the splatter or a whole new paintjob. Still more on that later.
The next thing I`m looking for is a cheap source of buckets for a fire stand. Tamiya gives you 2 in their oildrum set and resin is available, but at around £1:25-50p UK per item, its going to be expensive for ten just as a detail item so I may have to experimant.
Oh well will post again later, and all comments etc etc
regards Gary

I can only dream of having the talent, patience and skill it takes to pull off a dio like this HOG. I really enjoy how your projects always have a story to tell. As for the red splotches, you could always drip some "dirty" black over them as oil stains, and maybe even some slightly greenish colored water stains as Av-gas. I think Mr Howling Mouse is right though, you shuold try some test shots with the aircraft, etc. placed as that might save you a lot of unnecessary re-working.

Looking forward to the next episode,
