Comrades!

I want to build a battleship, but not just any kind of battleship!
A SOVIET Battleship!
The design must be based on the 1/600 Airfix Bismark (one my dad built in the 1960s), and must be relatively easy to convert! (so no scratchbuilding superstructures like 1920s US battleships with TV masts) Ive also got a HMS nelson i can get a few bits from! You must however remember, the turrets of nelson is missing, and the bismark only has 3 turrets, and 3 barrels...
Looking forwards to seeing any profiles, so i can base my actual build on it ;) And yes, im serious, im going to turn it into plastic :)

Four ships of the Sovietky Soyuz class were planned, the ships were not completed because of the German invasion. There was a heavy Italian design influence.

Bismarck drawing for comparison.

COMRADES!!!!!

Is GLORIOUS day in GREAT Soviet Union!

Tovarish, might I suggest this site?

It is called "Warships Projects Discussion Boards."  On that site, you will (WILL) find a section called "Russian/GLORIOUS Soviet Navies."  (Alright, so it's run by decadent western interests, so it does not have "GLORIOUS" in the title, but it should!)  Go into that section to find all sorts of ingenious and powerful examples of Socialist naval engineering!

All hail the God of Frustration!!!

Hmm, i like the sovietsky soyuz even more and more! Perhaps if i made each turret a single gun turret, 2 on the back, and 1 on the front (to defend itself from those pesky Royal Navy Battlecruisers chasing your rear end...)

Arrrr! :ar:

Hows this like then, comrade anatoly?

Does anyone know of any plans, real or imagined, to modernize either of the last two French battleships, the Jean Bart and Richelieu?  I was just browsing on HLJ, and I saw that Pit Road/Skywave have done 1/700 kits of both.  Richelieu is done in her US-refit WWII set-up, while Jean Bart is rendered in her Suez kit.  With all of the updated surface vessels I have seen floating around here, it made me wonder.

Garzke and Dulin's book mentions possible upgrades, but gives no further details. Dumas' books are the same.

Richelieu could have receive the same AA upgrade a Jean Bart, with the necessary hull updates.

A helo pad might have been added aft, even a hangar if they were willing to sacrifice AA guns.

Perhaps the upper 6" triple could have been replaced by a Masurca SAM launcher.
In want of hobby space!  The kitchen table is never stable.  Still managing to get some building done.

King Arthur: Can we come up and have a look?
French Soldier: Of course not. You're English types.
King Arthur: What are you then?
French Soldier: I'm French. Why do you think I have this outrageous accent, you silly king?

Well regardless I would rather take my chance out there on the ocean, that to stay here and die on this poo-hole island spending the rest of my life talking to a gosh darn VOLLEYBALL.

You can add to the battleship
- MM-38 (ship-based) Exocets
- an helicopter flight-deck.
Super Frelon also carried AM-39 Exocets.
- Tartar or MASURCA SAMs.

There are some interesting proposals in there, and some really ugly ones, especially the helo carriers. I don't think they would have installed four Tartars; two seems more likely, one each starboard and port.

I have to check my Heller models; those Super-Frelons look oversized compared to the Jean Bart.

Since I've always liked the arrangement of Kiev class ships, these once caught my eyes just wouldn't let go ;D :

Three of the proposals for converting Iowa class ships.  Follow the link here: http://www.ipmsusa2.org/Reviews/features/Heavy_Assault_Ship_Conversion/Heavy_Assault_Ship_Conversion.htm

I like Howard Pulver's design the most...... except for that Mk26 launcher at the bow.  The launcher probably wouldn't fare very well under heavy seas and the main gun blast.

And once in a while, I'd try to imagine if the same modifications could be applied to other battleships...... be them ones that actually saw service or what-if ones.

The Pulver design was represented into a scaled model here.

Someone built another one based on Bismarck/Tirpitz, christened "Odin".
To the individual soldiers, *everything* is a frontal assault!
