...for AMS(Advanced modeller syndrome), LMS(Lazy modeller syndrome), or CCW(Chronic Cluttered Workbench-itis)

I have a confession to make. Since I have restarted scale modeling as an active hobby some five years ago, I've started dozens of kits but I can count finished builds using the fingers on my own two hands. Usually I lose modeling momentum as soon as the kit is ready for decals. Then I kinda just put everything off as "just easy stuff ahead." Other times I just kinda give up after a disastrous paint job or a bout of overambitious kitbashing.

Eventually all that happens is builds just end up collecting dust, parts and decals earmarked for current projects accidentally get used up for other projects.

I propose a GB to help treat this terrible disease. Here's how it'd work.

1. Pick a started build out of the assembly line. If you're really feeling adventurous or indecisive, post up a bunch of them and let whiff.com decide thru informal poll.

2. Finish it in the most expedient way possible, skipping fine detailing and fancy paint jobs and heavy warloads if possible.

3. When done, pick another build and finish that.

The Concrete Rule:

1. Build must be whiff. If it wasn't going to be a whiff, finish it as one.

The Soft Rule:(you CAN break them, but be careful...)

2. Build must already be in progress, preferably recognisable as what it's supposed to be. If its an airplane, then the fuselage should be together, or at least a totally spiffy interior. If its just a basic four-piece painted cockpit and landing gear, then ya might as well start a new one. You COULD start a new one if you really wanted to, but what's the point? Is it a few glued bits short of finished? Do it anyway and get it out of the way so you can finish another.

The Really-Just-A-Suggestion Rule:

3. Avoid multitasking at all costs. Unless you're Comrade Anthony with an army of model-building gremlins, multiple projects on the workbench only spread you thin. Build 'em one at a time.

I've got a tonne of half-builts.....but I've refined my airbrush cleaning technique and actually enjoy using the thing now....so I'm getting the ones started for the CG/SAR build knocked off and then I'll get on the rest.

I suppose this would be Son-Of-The-Phoenix, but iirc that one was about finishing up overambitious ultra-projects, whereas what I had in mind was more along the lines of throwing some paint and getting things done as quickly as possible.

Or how about this to make it not only a doomed gb but also a logistical nightmare....

Secret Santa Phoenix build!

Send some poor sap an unfinished project along with whatever remaining parts you still have and have him finish it

Well then, due to redundancy I formally withdraw my proposal for the GB mentioned in the original post, in favor of a "Secret Santa Sucker" GB, where one sends an unfinished project to someone else, then have the victim finish it off as s/he sees fit.

Call the Group Build what you will, it's still a good idea to get the old projects finally finished.  I, for one, still need this kind of thing to get me going on 8 or 9 (or 21?) incomplete past projects.  Even though it didn't work last time---whoops!

Heh, heh.  2010 deadline, anyone?   :P
