Once upon a time, I remember seeing, in a book on the F-14, a picture of a desktop model painted in Thunderbirds markings as part of the sales effort to the USAF.  If anyone has that book, I'd truly appreciate a scan of that.  Similarly, if anyone has a pic of any proposed F-15 schemes for the Thunderbirds, I'd be very interesting.  As 'tis, my F-15 Thunderbirds scheme at the moement is a cross between that of 71-0291 in Bi-Centennial demo markings and an amalgam of actual Thunderbirds markings for the F-16 and previous aircraft used; the biggest problem I have is that the F-15 would be the first high-wing fighter in their use.

No help as such, but...

I recently aqquired a Hasegawa F-16 in Thunderbird markings of the net, needless to say she won't be getting dress up in that attire  ^_^ , but if you have the need I'll happily trade the decals.

I was going to post this in the trade-section, and I will further on, but since you mentioned it I thought I let you know.

A couple of years ago I picked up the AMT 1/72 Thunderbirds set for a song.  It has an F-100, F-4, and F-16 with decals for all 3. I have no plans for a T-Bird build so you're welcome ot all three sets of decals if you think you can use them on this project.

I cold mail them or bring them to Dallas next month.
So I got that going for me...which is nice....

You're probably aware Evan, but there's a few aircraft on the US airshow scene in spurious Thunderbirds colours.

There's one here of a modellers WIP of a F-107, it probably would have ended up flying in Thunderbirds colours had it entered service:

I don't think it's nice, you laughin'. You see, my mule don't like people laughin'. He gets the crazy idea you're laughin' at him. Now if you apologize, like I know you're going to, I might convince him that you really didn't mean it.

If you're looking for actual proposed aircraft in Thunderturds colors, then there isn't much choice.  When they went from the F-4 to the T-38 in 1974, the only other potential at that point was the F-5E/F.  But since that wasn't in regular (only aggressor) service with the USAF, it was shelved.  There was never any serious consideration of using the F-15, as the F-16 had come along at the same time and was much cheaper to operate.

I was friends with the owner of 556RH (his initals were RH).  He kept it at my home airport until he was killed in an accident in a Helio Courier back around 96.  He also owned a Vampire (sold his single-seater to Travolta, bought 2 x trainers from the Swiss) a Jet Provost, and was in the process of buying a Gnat when he was killed.  It's a beautiful aircraft and I have a lot of close up detail shots of it if anyone ever has a need for the scheme or general T-33 details.

About spurious markings again, the site where I found the WIP F-107 mentions an A-10 model in Thunderbirds markings at the Nellis Museum.  Also a Blackbird!!!    B)  http://www.hobbytalk.com/bbs1/showthread.php?t=126028

Yeah, I know.  But the demo scheme on 71-0291, especially the bicentennial version thereof, is such a good starting point that it cries out to be done.  Actually, the closer I look, the closer that Bicentennial Scheme owes a lot to the 1974 season scheme on the T-birds' T-38s.

Airplane Driver, I can probably use those nicely; likely not on the aircraft intended, but where's the fun in that?

For the record, I'm also acquiring what I need to do a F-15M (navalized fixed-wing F-15) in Blue Angels markings.

Oh, Mossie, I've heard the same story about the A-10 model from other sources.  You have to admit, those flying an aerobatic routine would be impressive.

Amphion and Aeroplane Driver, if y'all don't want those decal sheets, I most definitely can use them for my purposes.  Please PM me and I'll give you my mailing address; please also let me know what I owe you for them.

...... as in non-folding?
[/quote]

Nope, with the early square-tipped wing so I can mount sidewinder rails on them in addition to using all four underwing hardpoints.  The fold lines can be scribed into the wing.  This is somewhat different from the F-15N swing-wing version someone else here has done.

I'm getting a better feel for this one now that I've got better info on the various Thunderbirds schemes (yes, including pics of the A-10 model they painted up - man, is that one tempting).  I'll post something as soon as I get schemes firmly worked out.

I'd love to see those pics of the A-10 if you can post them Evan.  I take it you've seen Zactoman's thread with F-23's, F-117's & SR-71's all in T-Birds colours???

How about the F-107?  I'm suprised nobodys put T-Birds markings on the Trump kit yet.

It's one I'm strongly considering with the markings design done using a combination of F-105 and F-100D schemes.
