First modeling in about 5 months, so here goes.  A Buffalo with SPATS! just seemed so natural to me (a plus was that it was near the top of the boxed up kits from the move!).

I always start with the figures.  No idea why.

Cockpit shots.  Keeping it simple.  No mods inside.

Preparations for the wheel whells which whill (nice alliteration, eh?) be filled in.

Airframe starts coming together.  As ever, I am a complete schlub when it comes to using glue, it seems.  Oh well.  Still having fun (no putty in sight yet, in other words).  Here's the engine.

And, of course, it will need scratchbuilt SPATS!

Reminds me of that great band, "Love Spat Love".

   Neatness personified !

And the dreaded PSR stages where I invariably lose momentum...   :(

I haven't even set up the shop space so I can wet-sand yet.

The pic of your spat template totally made my day, Mr Howling Mouse! I think you're on the way to creating some of the sexiest spats yet! What a great start!

Wow, gorgeous! You're right, I've always thought the Buffalo would look good with spats and an open cockpit. Actually, if you opened the cockpit, kept the retracatble gear, and put a slotted baffle in front of the engine cowling, it could be a what-if Polikarpov development. And those spats are some of the sexiest I've seen. I'm awaiting further progress with bated breath, whatever that means.

Neat idea and both the cockpit and the engine looks fantastic.

I am a bit worried about the two pilots. One of them is showing some leg, one hand coyly on his hip and the other waving at... passing sailors? The other guy looks like he's fervently praying. What's the deal here?

Frank,

JHM is good, but he doesn't put The Boots on his soldiers.   :o

Thanks, guys.

Frank,
You'd be fervently praying too if you had a telephone pole up the wazoo!!  (note toothpick)

Well, she's a little worse for wear but the PSR is done.  It could really use a second stage of PSR but I keep reminding myself that the goal on this one is to get it DONE by Feb 15th.

You are ever the perfectionist, Mr Howling Mouse! You've already totally surpassed my limited PSR skills. I don't know what kind of color scheme you're thinking of but some camo is sure to hide any trivial imperfections that might be there.

You're got another stunner in the works!

I have a LOT of work cut out for me tomorrow: here are the spat templates drawn out onto 1/8" x 3/4" strip stock.  I will cut all four out using a bandsaw, then hand-shape them into the required tear-drop halves which will be glued together to form (I hope) believable spat bodies.

That, and I'm building a whole bunch of shelves in the basement so the stash can finally get aired out!!!

Wow that's majorly impressive, Mr Howling Mouse! I've never seen anyone approach scratch-building spats in such a serious manner. I beleive you've fairly shown me up.  ^_^

You might want your wheels to be a bit further up inside the spats. Usually only less than half or perhaps a third of the wheel shows under the spats.

I anxiously await your next update on this amazing project!
