Depending on what powers the thing, those may just be blisters to accomodate rocker covers or some other engine part, the nose does look pretty narrow so I don't think that's unplausible.

Definitely a beautiful aircraft.

Its powered by a RR Eagle, which would explain the location of the lumps. From what I recall of the Westland Wyvern, there should be exhaust pipes there too. Perhaps theyre tucked away into some sort of turbocharger setup?

Modelling it? Hmm, the wings & tail are pretty close to a Mustang, so you could start there.  You'd have to scratch the radiators of course.  Fuse, now that's more tricky, but for one that slender you might be able to start with a Westland Whirlwind, it'd need a lot of modification.  Classic Airframes do it in 1/48 Greg.

Considering that it was proposed to be powered by this lump:

The Rolls Royce 22 'Eagle', the fairing on the side would be to cover the heads as already mentioned above.

This photo incidently, is of a 1/5 scale fully working model of the engine and was built by Barry Hares (a Aircraft Engine Historical Society member)

Sorry folks,  I should have posted some more details.  As Wooksta mentioned, it is essentially a much modified Spiteful/SeaFang - see pg 30 of British Secret Projects 3: Fighters and Bombers 1935-1950.

Somebody has modeled Supermarine Type 391... as a Radio Control model.

I'm not sure what the status of the model is now but it flew OK until a minor landing mishap.
