Yeah, I have always liked this beast, ("El Monstruo del Mar Caspio"-"The Caspian Sea Monster")

I'm currently in the planning stage, so I haven't started to cut cardboard (Yum!!!) or plastic yet.

Won't be as detailed as Ken Duffey's, but will certainly be a good practice start for plank-over-frame technique, which I have always dreaded.

The Planking will be -you guessed it- paper/cardboard (Yum!!!) since I have not the ideal setup for working with fiberglass at home (health/space/ventilation issues).

Anyways, I found the plans, as usual at www.airwar.ru, and wanted to start with something very big (eighty-some centimeters length) and then coat it with bondo or something to help me harden/smoothen/prepare for scribing.

Building process photos when I start. Hopefully tomorrow.

Plans here....

Saludos,

Rafa

OK, I know I can't stop scratchbuilding. Someday, I will build something OOB....

Should be a real stunner, even my little 1/144 job gets a second look on the tables. Looking forward to seeing this one !

Well, you could beat ken duffeys by doing it in the gorgeous scheme that the Venezuelan air force has its Mi-26s in   :)

Honestly thouhg, what scale?

Rafael

Thanks, amigos!!!

Well, I have not decided about paint schemes, whether military or civilian, since from where I am standing now, the project looks like nothing I have ever made, so fear is ruling.

So far, I'm measuring carefully to avoid misalingments. Though not visible here, the frames or cross sections have been marked and measured to size them correctly on the model:

The whole enchilada is 80.56 centimeters long, at 1/72, my preferred scale

The propeller looks like the one on a An-22 or Tu-95. Trumpeter do a 1/72 -95, and A-model do the -22

Cool build, Rafa. I know you'll pull it off, and it'll look great when you do. I think it would be great to see one of these beasties in Aeroflot markings, just for laughs.

For a colour scheme, how about any western navy - say they were purchased after the fall of the Soviet Union.  My particular pick would be a replacement for the Japanese Shin Meiwa PS-1 ASW flying Boats - in the same colour scheme of course:

Ballsy, Mister.  Verrrrry ballsy.  Um, has the Missus approved a final display area for this Beastie d'Caspios?    :P
Styrene in my blood and an impressive void in my cranium.

Scary!!!

Thanks for your encouragement!!

Up to now, I was doubting whether I miscalculated the framing or not. Luckily, I was right.

So tonight, when the glue sets on this side, I will start the other. And after that, planking the whole fuselage.

I still don't know how to do the wings, but one thing is certain, I have the profiles, and the surface to which the entire wing is mounted is totally vertical, which facilitates the mounting.

Hey McGreig!  U and ken putting on a stand at Milton Keyens next month?  if yes, why not get ken to dig his model of the beast out and we can sort out some decent photos for Rafa.
I always hope for the best.
Unfortunately,
experience has taught me to expect the worst.

We should be there. I'll give Ken a call to make sure he brings it - it's a couple of years since we've had it on the stand.

Yep, I've saved his in-progress website ever since I first saw it.  Most impressive. Have you already seen this, Rafa?

Still can't believe you're doing this in CARDBOARD (yum!), though!
