A familiar sad story (for my bank balance, that is...):

Went to the hobby shop for ONLY ONE TIN OF PAINT HONESTLY, and came out with:

3 tins of paint (none of which was the one I went in for...)
A paint brush
A pin vice
A roll of 6mm Tamiya tape
A RoG He-70 Blitz

The He-70 looks like a lovely little kit, with alternative engines (DB and Gnome Rhone) and cockpits (civil/military) and cool markings (Lufthansa, Spanish Republican AF and Hungarian AF). Don't know what I want to do with it yet: the only thing that's occured to me so far is an Anglo-German version ("Airspeed Lightning"?) with a BP Defiant's engine and turret.

That He-70 is indeed a lovely little kit! I built one earlier this year and acquired another one in the MAtchbox Madness GB over on ARC. The only thing to be careful is assembling the inline engine, which can be a bit fiddly. You also get two sets of exhausts with the inline if memory serves.

Have fun with your He-70 Weaver and please share pics of the finished model with us.

More likely the Luftwaffe's Fairey Battle. Heinkel re-engined one with a DB601 and tried to market it as the he 270 but it wasn't much cop.

Didn't say it was a good idea, just that it was the sort of thing that might have been knocking around had there been German/British co-operation at the time. The Fairey Battle did, after all, get both built and bought. Mistakes, failures and wrong ideas are as interesting as successes: look at the endless fascination with rocket-fighters.......

It could be a Patchwork World aircraft. In PW, there'd be some "German" and some "British" states on good terms with each other, and licence production, and subsequent modification, is often preferred to physical export.

I have to disagree, the ex-Matchbox Blitz was a horror to build (I did it when it first came out in 1988) and time hasn't improved it.  However, the fuselage lookslike it could prove useful as a basis for the Gloster submission to the Defiant spec, which looks very like an enlarged Gloster F5/34 but with a turret.

Since I've only just got it and I'm unlikely to get around to building it any time soon, I can't really comment on what it's like to build. I suppose I was struck by the fact that, compared to the similarly sized and configured AD-5 Skyraider I bought the other week, it has three engine/cockpit build options (BMW, not DB as a I put originally) while the Spad doesn't even have weapons, and they've made a fair stab at the interior, despite the fact that it can only be seen through a few small windows, while the Spad's huge clear canopy gives you a lovely view of bugger all.

Didn't know any info survived on the Gloster F9/35 proposal - any pictures?

Radish

Remember the SPAD is a re-release of the much earlier Monogram kit from aeons ago and it certainly pre-dates the He70. That was, of course, from Matchbox.

As indicated earlier....2 x VEB Be-6, 1 x D.500 (Heller), 1x Airfix Auster, 1 x Academy Storch, SMER I-153

All 1/72nd, all "Biggles Collection" apart from the Be-6s.

These will be RAF (well, one will certainly) as per certain profiles on this site.
The kits are monumentally "basic" but will be fun. Cowlings might be replaced with new engines and the props definitely need to go. There are no interiors anywhere at all, but who cares, eh? Trumpeter will no doubt do all that when their Be-6 appears. The entire airframe/wings/tail has12 pieces

From Burbank House of Hobbies, I got Revell SSP release of the Nike Hurcules. 1/40 scale or so. interesting kit - I love the box top - Nikes flying off in the distance, but the guys hanging out around the base of their missile don't see, to be too concerned. Their pal is yelling at them to get their arses in gear.

A friend informs me that the Heller Cl-415 kit has the original engines from the Cl-215 as well as the 415 ones.
So I can build the 2 kits I've just ordered as Cl-215s and put the -415 engines on the Be-6s.

Of course, I now have FOUR flying boats to build instead of two, but hey, flying boats are fun.
Look at all the weathering possibilities!!

I reckon the Imperial Roman Navy needs a Cl-215, eh? :drink:
