Just got from a fantastic bookshop with a top-notch kit selection:

Airfix 1:72 Lightning F3

AND before ANYONE even CONTEMPLATES mentioning any inaccuracies or deficiencies in my kit, I have wanted a Lightning all my life and this just happened to scream at me so I DON'T CARE!!!!!!!!

Whiffed. Of course. As you were.

I just got a great deal on several models from a friend who bought a 200+ kit collection:

- Roden 1/32  Fokker D.VI
- RPM  1/35 FT-17 WWI tank (with canon)
- Emhar 1/35 Whippet Tank (which way is the "front" on this thing?)
- A started, but complete Revell USS Burton Island icebreaker for $15. It's going to get rescaled to 1/350.

Scooterman

HobbyBoss 1/72 TA-7C Corsair.  VERY NICE!  Plus all the parts to do the ANG A-7K.

Also scored the AirDOC A-7 ANG sheet so I can finally do my PA ANG bird right!

AeroplaneDriver

As I was driving to work in Atlanta on Sunday I stopped by a hobby shop and saw a 1/48 Hobbycraft F-111E on the sale shelf for $16.  So I bought it.  Next time I'll spend the money on lottery tickets or something more useful.

What a piece of crap...
So I got that going for me...which is nice....

Not really, the outline is reasonable and it's only in the detail parts that it's let down.  Let's not forget that the Airfix Lightning first came out in 1961 and the detail was reasonable for the time.  With a bit of care and some effort it can be made into a very nice model.

I'd advise getting a new u/c (Aeroclub), mainwheel doors (Aeroclub) and bang seat (Martin-Baker Mk 4 - Aeroclub), along with one of the two decal sheets Xtradecal did for the Lightning.  The IFR probe and spare missiles from the Matchbox Lightning can help too.

Then again, wait for the Trumpeter one.
Cheers Lee! That's the sort of constructive info I was hoping for! UNFORTUNATELY, the NZ$11.50 I spent on the kit was my last cash of any kind, so until I get a job I can't really get any aftermarket. HOWEVER, next time I stumble across this kit I'll be sure to get in touch with my regular suppliers to get that stuff. Mind you, the IFR probe wouldn't be any good unless I was willing to scratch a bigger underbelly tank and cranked wing so that it could accurately portray an F6.

Thomas - hehe.....NZ, but not air force.....

Yould always use the low-budget solution to the gear issues; make it an inflight build (naturally posed in a near-vertical climb!).  The pilot in the cockpit is also going to make it easier to make the seat look decent with just a little styrene and wire.
So I got that going for me...which is nice....
