Just noticed what this thread is all about...... I wish I hadn't!

Living in Lydney in the Forest of Dean I'm MILES from any decent model shop, the nearest of any sort is 20 miles away in Gloucester and that's an Antics branch. When we moved here in 1982 one of the things that sold the house for me was The Loft, which has an 1850's style open '^' frame truss system giving lots of open space for my unbuilt models and N guage model railway. After about 6 months my wife Mary asked me 'So how do you like living here after this time?' I replied that it was great, just a pity that we were miles from a decent model shop. She looked at me sideways and said 'There's a very good one really close by!' so I asked her where. She pointed to the ceiling........... :)

At the last count, around 5 years ago, I had over 1000 unbuilt kits up there, and I have bought a few (really just a few.....) since then. At nearly age 66 now I'm not going to make them all before time catches up with me, so watch out for a BUMPER sale sometime in the next year or so!

Anyone need 25 Airfix DC-9 kits?????

My latest buy was a bunch of Minicraft 1/144 Sea Harriers destined for the decks of my 'in-build' SS Atlantic Conveyor. (Don't hold your breath, it'll be years before it's launched)

No probs, it'll take me ages to make up a list, but as my main modelling area (apart from spoofs) are airliners I have zillions of stock up there.

I bought the DC-9s when Airfix decided to stop making the kit some years ago because they didn't sell like 1/72 scale Spitfires. I pointed out they had a closed market as at the time they made the ONLY 1/144 DC-9 around but did they take any notice? No......

Later on they put it back into their lists of course, but still with the same decal sheet! (KLM/Iberia)

Whiff it! Whiff it! How about Virgin Atlantic?

Geoff

Went into the local MZ as they are supposed to be getting me a Trump Tu-16 and walked out with a Polish PT-76 in 1/35th -  this one will be for a real life build.

just a quick note for PR_19Kit: ( and the reason i joined sort off)  Your closer than you think, Ross on Wye has a car place called andy pack in the bottom half of the main shopping street, they have got a load of stuff out the back, you have to ask to look but its around a 10` square room of the stock they take to shows.  ( say sorry to the wife)

As for the Concorde, Virgin Atlantic is one idea I did have (as was Pan Am), however as seeing everyone seems to be doing Bombcordes I plan to do a Transcorde... fast troop transport RAF Transport Command (or maybe even a Queens Flight bird).

Seeing as the Concorde was also French, and British schemes on Concordes are going a bit normal on this site, perhaps a French Transcorde?

PR19_Kit

Oh yes, I know Andy Pack at Ross only too well I'm afraid.  >:(

He still owes me a Vampire T11 kit after delivering three SB2s in a row, all of them in T11 boxes, and that's from years ago! I'm afraid he doesn't come under the classification of 'model shop' in my book. And I have more stuff in my Loft than he has anyway. :)

U will find quite a few of us who have had interesting dealings with the afore mentioned trader over the years.

my apologys gentlemen, i hadnt realised the above. I had hoped to help and wasnt aware of your previous dealings, though i will say that for the strait mainstream kits that ive purchased, ive had good service, hence my mentioning.
I know that there used to be a book shop / kit railway store in Lydney also but i think that it shut around 3 years ago ( i found it once and have been unable to locate it since ).

and ill add anouther   concerning your wifes sense of humor. I hope that you have many more years of happy assembling ahead.

That would have been 'Dean Sidings', right opposite Tescos in Lydney. I used to be Dave's 'aviation advisor' when it came to plastic kits, his main modelling being making masters for resin body shells for 4mm scale model railway locos. In fact the PR19 was displayed in the window there for a week when he had a bunch of Matchbox Meteor NF kits to get rid of.  ;D

As usual in these cases the landlord got greedy and raised to the rent to stratospheric levels and Dave told him what to do with it. He closed the shop but still does his resin body work, I saw him at the Lydney MR Show a month or so ago.

Just sad that corporate greed rules yet again. The shop now sells carpets!

eBay sent me another Italeri NATO weaps set - shame it's 1:72, but hey, I'm going to run out of display space for my 1:48 stuff one day, right ?
