Fisher P-75 Eagle

So I bought myself one of those 1/72 Fisher P-75 Eagle kits by Valom today and have a bunch of whiffing ideas flying around right now.

Right now I'm thinking about it in a post war RAF context of some sort and a re-engining to a British powerplant is formost in my mind and I'm wondering what would work.

If I kept it to piston power, I think a Napier Sabre V might be a workable substitute for  the original Alison unit. I found a few figures for their respective performances and they don't look unswapable. I'm willing to be wrong though.

I was also thinking of going turboprop, any ideas what mid/late 50s British TP might work in an Eagle?

Open to other suggestions by those who know more.

you'd need some proper inlets, but how about the engine(s) and props from a Wyvern?

I had been thinking about better air to the engines. Some extra scoops on the fuselage sides or the like.

As for the Wyvern prop, I had actually been thinking about swapping the contra prop arrangement for a single, five blade prop like from a late Spitfire or a Sea Fury.

If I went the turbo prop route, would a series of Harrier style blow in doors on the fuselage sides constitute proper inlets?

OK, I know the Fisher Eagle was a prime hunk of Junk and it was mainly put in existence to keep GM out of producing B-29s (I think).

But I can be an optimist can't I? :lol:
Maybe the whole program could be sold to some foreign manufacturer and turned into something decent...

Maybe I'll give it to the Swiss or Finns, I have some of their markings sitting in the stash somewhere I think.

Rear gunner! Pusher prop (so it will have a pusher AND and puller, making it similar to the Do-335!)! Then fit some large caliber guns (like the stuka that killed tanks), and you will have a fine replacement for B-25s, P-39s, P-38s and P-47s! Fast, Heavy, Well armed!

I took a look in my stash to see what might be lurking and not only dod I find Swiis and Finn decals, but also Indian ones. I also have a set of Quickboost Wyvern exhausts, for some reason. :huh:

At that, I'm pretty much 100% sure I'll take it the turboprop route. I'd move the cockpit a bit further back, put the engine in the nose where it blongs and use the space amidships for extra fuel, camera gear or even a small cargo compartment so it could be used for high speed courier type work.....

A thought has occured, building on the above idea of selling the whole program to a foreign country, perhaps the aircraft could come under the possession of Hindustan Aircraft in the early 50s. I know India has always been leary of American assistance in its defence matters, but what if they could purchase the whole program outright and control it themselves?

Putting it In India's hands could lead to some interesting possibilities of marrying the airframe to either a British or Soviet turboprop engine or even a domestically derived one.

Well, that's the thoght for now anyway.

Jon, that Douglas contraption looks like some sort of American Gannet.

Trip 7, I like the push/pull concept, but that's more prop clearance issues than I'm prepared to deal with on my model. I decided early on that mine would stay a tail dragger though I did replace the main undercarriage completely. I just didn't care for the naval style main gear that it had.

Fitting a second engine forward would entail any number of engineering difficulties, drastically increasing weight, reducing fuel capacity and severely restricting room for fuselage armament .

Interesting that you would post that image as while ruminating on the Eagle the other day  I wondered... what-if you changed the aircraft from tractor to pusher prop and then gave it an all-gun nose along the lines of the P-80?
