Oh my goodness! That's almost identical to some pics of a Nanchang I've seen!

A mate of mine, who also owns a NANCHANG, was talking to the owner of the NANCHANG that looks quite a lot like the Yak in your pic, right down to the nose art, and he was trying to sell my friend his NANCHANG. Imagine that!

Nanchang CJ-5 = Chinese built Yak-18

Nanchang CJ-6 = independent Chinese redesign that ended up looking much like the Yak-18A.
One major difference is that the Yak-18A main gear retract forwards and the wheels are left exposed, the Nanchang CJ-6 gear retract inwards towards the aircraft centerline.

The aircraft in the photo is a Nanchang.

Pretty fancy,  but it kinda takes away the chunky workhorse look that I always likes about the plane.

Thanks Jon! In regards the Yak and Chang, the tail group is different (rounded on the Yak, a lot more square on the Changa) and the wings have pronounced dihedral on the Changa whereas the Yak is almost dead-straight.

Plus the Nanchang's better, full-stop. :P to all you Yak-52 drivers!

GTX

Yes, my bad - it is a Nanchang CJ-6A - apparently it is soon to also have a 3 bladded prop.

Greg
