Not exactly the Texan in the subject, but I've been wanting to do, (it's on my to-do list) a turbo-prop AT-6/SNJ, using, in theory, the same technique used on converting radial powered cropdusters to TP, basically put a long, sharp nose on it. Maybe update the canopy with a T-33 canopy as well. I recently got a book on the history of the AT-6/SNJ & Sweden, IIRC, planned a TP mod for it. The drawing looks like maybe a Lycoming T-55, like from an OV-1.

I almost thought of the pic as a real thing......

Nicely done.
To the individual soldiers, *everything* is a frontal assault!

A Bridge Too Far had Harvards represent Thunderbolts, Typhoons, FW190s (and probably Dakotas too)!   ;D ;D

After seeing on many occasions the T-6 were disguised as fighters...... I feel tempted to ask if there actually have been a fighter development out of the T-6 in the US (that excludes the Boomerang)......

Seven NA-50 for Peru, and six NA-68(NA-50A) for Thailand.
The NA-68 never made it to Thailand and were taken over by the USAAC as the P-64.

NA-68(NA-50A)/P-64

It could carry 4 X .30 MG (two in fuselage, one each wing); 2 X 20mm cannon (under-wing pods) and bombs.

Single seat fighter concepts go back to the earliest days of the NA-16 design series.

Air Classics magazine (Vol.7 # 6, Sept 1971) had a story on 2 modified T-6's & their different flight characteristics to the standard T-6.  One was the "standard" Zero conversion for the Tora movies, while the other was a "Yak" -- bumps on cowling, nose-gear (!!), T-33-style canopy & tip-tanks.

Unlike the late 1980's & '90's versions, those early editions were totally chockers with new & interesting articles.
you may as well all give up -- the truth is much stranger than fiction.

I'm not sick ... just a little unwell.

Nice.  Wonder how it would hold up when compared to Hawk 75......

The 'Yak" one was a Bacon Super 6. I don't remember a lot of details but IIRC, it had a Wright R-1300 in addition to its airframe mods. As for a real mod, there's a Reno racer that's been in the works for about 25 years & I think it's back on track now, called "Wildfire" & is a highly modified AT-6 with an R-2800 among other mods. At one time there was a site for it, but I don't recall the exact URL for it.

What if the RAAF/CAC decided to fit the Allison engine of their P-40s to the CAC Boomerang to improve performance:

Greg

And why not Merlin Boomerang?

EDIT: Balanced fuselage variant added.

They are both quite pugnacious looking aircraft and the Merlin engine'd one is quite attractive in an odd way as well

Interesting and doable. Somehow I can imagine something similar looking coming out of the Ikarus design shop in the former Yugoslavia.
