LVTP-5, LVTH-6, LVTP-7, AAAV-7 and EFV

I have been looking but no luck,Does anyone know of any aftermarket turrets for the upgraded AAVP7A1? I'm looking for the 40mm & .50cal turret like the one pictured here

Any help is greatly appreciated

I think Verlinden did one in 1/35 (ages ago, doubtful if it's still available), other than that you'd have to canibalise a Tamiya AAV7

Regarding the resin turret from Verlinden.  Caveat Emptor!  The kit is a bit sparse on detail and it appears to be a bit undersized for a 1/35th scale figure.  In retrospect, it may be my imagination since I experienced that same undersize effect in real life while trying to egress from the gunners hatch on the M2 Bradley IFV.  There is a problem with the barrel provided in the kit that is supposed to represent the Mk19 40 grenade launcher is far too small in diameter.  If you purchase the Verlinden turret, you will still need to find a decent Mk19 barrel and there are a couple of sources for that part, one of which is a recently released and quite expensive turned brass barrel with muzzle brake that is really nice but it is going to cost you.  The other options are to look for kits that have the Mk19 included as an accessory such as the Academy HMMWV kit with the add on armor plate or the most recent Tamiya release of the HMMWV weapons carrier.  Another source would be to acquire the DML/Dragon modern weapons set which includes the Mk19 as well as some other nice weapons fequently seen in use by American and allied forces. 

Tamiya did kit the later version of the AAAV7 that does include the UGWS Turret with all of the bells and whistles and it is hard to find and quite expensive if you do find it.  A cheaper copy of the Tamiya kit was also produced by a Chinese company, don't remember the name but it is a copy of the Tamiya kit.

The ROCMC, back in the time when the official ROC policies include eventually reconquering the Mainland China, spent quite a bit of efforts to keep their fleet of LVTP-5s and LVTH-6s combat-worthy: namely the replacement of gasoline engines with diesel ones.

In addition to the command version, 105mm SPH version, and the basic APC version, they fitted 117mm artillery rockets for indirect fire support, a new heavy-duty boom crane (replacing the old A-frame crane) for the recovery version, and recoilless rifle for anti-armour examples.

On the RR arrangement, however, the rifled gun and the gun crew, mounted directly on top of the vehicle, are exposed to the element and hostile fires.  I've always figured that either a recycled M41 turret or a new 90mm (either GIAT or Cockerill) turret originally meant for light AFVs mounted over the cargo/personnel compartment might be a better choice- I don't think the recoilless rifles can be fired until the vehicles are on the beach anyway, and wouldn't the Cockerill gun be able to use the 90mm shells left behind by the phase-out of ROCA M48A3 tanks......

Actually, would it be able to use the LCTS-90 turret with its longer-barrelled Mk8 cannon?



When the ROCMC began acquiring LVTP/AAV-7, I've always wondered about the potential for them to develop indigenous specialized versions like amphibious tank and artillery rocket types, with the weapons turret/mount installed over the cargo/personnel compartment.

For amphibious tank, I have several options in mind:

1. a 76mm-gun turret again recycled from M41 light tanks (preferably upgraded with the new guns and improved fire control system of M41D);

2. a 105mm-gun turret from the indigenous Clouded Leopard mobile gun variant or a Cockerill CT-CV turret;

3. a 105mm-gun turret used by the Stingray tank and LAV-600- that turret is the one I originally had in mind; having been inspired by the PLA's Type 63A and not seen the Clouded Leopard.

Artillery rocket version...... Kung Feng VI 45-round launcher?



Other ideas welcomed.

Answering my own question, I was told elsewhere that Cockerill Mk 8 cannon can use the 90mm shells left behind by decommissioning of M48A3 tanks, so I guess it'd be LCTS-90 turret over the cargo/personnel compartment as one of the options for fire support LVTP-5 and AAV-7 variants......

One of these is in the bay at work right now.  Absolutely gigantic vehicle.

I've been joking with the engineers that they should steal the turret from the Bradley and put it onto the AAV.
