I think Davey B has been trying to do this since he joined the forum x years ago...

Retrp_seventies was alos on about doing one as well.

Progress. The underside wing gloves are structurally done, but need surface work and detailing. The forward part of the ventral center body need some blending work.

or maybe it was Retro?

Me too. But so difficult... :banghead:

Mine is my modeling nemesis. It's already eaten an f-4s, 2 f-14s and has pretty much killed my ability to finish a model.  Certainly i haven't finished one since i started this in 2003.   It gets a sanding and a swearing at every few months, and one day i'll finish it...either that or be buried with the sodding thing.

I might have picked this up wrong but if this is a conversion then the end user is only buying the parts needed to convert an off the shelf F-4 into the VS?
In which case everything sold was manufactured from scratch by the VS manufacturer, ie wing box, lower fuselage etc. You would still need to but an F-4 to actually make it?

That is as yet undertermined. The modifications are so extensive that there'll be very little of the original F-4 left. Things that *might* remain unchanged include:
Sparrow missiles
Vertical stabilizer
Cockpit
Inlet boundary layer splitters
Canopy
Nose gear (possibly mains)

Theres no harm in useing some one else's kit of what ever as a base to creat something new, in the case of the F 4(VS) here, the mods Scott is makeing to the base kit are so exstream that it is certainly not piracey as something compleatly new will be the end result.
Besides useing parts from other kits has been an excepted industry meathod used in comercial modeling for so long (take your pick of any sci fi film pre CGI) that i doubt any attempted legal case would last its first hearing, before being laugthed out of court.
I always hope for the best.
Unfortunately,
experience has taught me to expect the worst.

Progress, mateys! ARRRRRRR!!!!!

Note two separate noses. The bulk of the heavy construction is done, now it gets into details. Yo ho!

Nice to see the E and the J nose, now all you need is the M intakes and cans  ;D.

Looking good i take it the main undercarriage bays will go in as part of the detailing , or will you clone your belly insert first and modify that rather than cutting into the master ?

Yes.

Very cool and impressive building!
What did you use for the inner fuselage? A F-15 base?

Whatever, that's fantastic!

The undersides of the wing gloves come from an ancient F-14. The very center of the piece comes from the centerline (maybe 1/2" wide) of the original F-4 model. The rest is sculpture.
