Hey everyone. I've just started on my Spats GB entry. Yea, I know, little late. But I hope to get it done in the 2 weeks remaining. Here's a pic of what I'm starting with. Don't worry, those floats will be used in the very near future.

So far I'm just cleaning up all the pieces and test-fitting them. There was a ton of flash on this kit. It will probably end up brush-painted with acrylics to save time. More to come...

Curtiss racer with spats? That would really make it a racer! :o

OK, here's where I'm at after about an hour's worth of work(I procrastinated putting up the pics...):

The prop is just snap fit for the pic. The spats will be Brian's patented "drop-tank and half-wheel" method, with an inverted U-shape from sprue to attch the to the centerline of the fuselage. I'll add a random tailwheel from my spares bag, and I'll also mount some guns in the "troughs" on the top wing. I'm still debating markings. Czechoslovakia, Finland, or Latvia? Hmm.....

I'm really looking forward to seeing this one, Jon! The Curtiss Schneider Cup racer is one of the sexiest birds ever built!

This one screems for either Czech, Spanish (civil war) or pre-war Nazi Germany!

The Czech should be a single tone dark greenish - tan color.
The Spanish should be one of the beutiful splinter camos with light grey and green and purple colors.
The pre war nazi machine should be bare metal/silve with blue bits on it!

Those are great ideas Trip 7! I 'd like to add Spanish Republican (the markings are easy and look great agains the brown/green camo). My favorite would be inter-war U.S.A.A.C. "yellow wings" scheme which would be easy as Jon's already got the decals. A backstory where the Curtiss racer was re-engineered as a pursuit would be a natural!

This aircraft certainly has some late hawker biplane look to it. Too bad the late Hawker biplanes didnt have spats, they were very elegant aircraft, and would look even better with spats

Those are all great ideas 777! It was just going to be olive drab with linen undersides(that joke makes itself....), but I'm not so sure now. The Spanish Civil War is probably the favorite right now, as I just watched Pan's Labrynith, but it would be relatively time-consuming. And as easy as it would be, I'm not sure about the USAAC yellow wings, because yellow paint gives me trouble.... I'm really not sure, but Spanish Civil Waris the front-runner. I'm going to try and venture out into the snow to make it to work. Wish me luck everybody!

There were spatted versions of the Hawker Fury, Trip 7, as famously featured in that 1937 epic film, "Things to Come". You can get white metal Hawker Fury spats very inexpensively through Aeroclub from Hannant's.

This is a great idea, S.U.N. (as in: "Why didn't I think of that?!")
Styrene in my blood and an impressive void in my cranium.
