A slight problem here in that the 'Bear-D' was in service with Soviet Naval Aviation so this camo scheme isn't really appropriate... but it is quite effective over this arid desert terrain!

I was going to do the F4U Corsair in Lozenge camo with German markings but the white tail reminded me that I've previously done an Aussie F4U in olive green with a white tail and thought I'd just place those very same decals on the new Lozenge camo. The P-48C reference is simply due to the USAAF having adopted the Corsair back in 1943!

I've previously shown the MiG-15 in RAF British service as the Mikoyan-Guryevich-Hawker OKB Falchion F.1 (flashback below) but this version uses a lovely Bulgarian skin by 'Paulopanz' with some suitable decals by me and some stock Vampire serial numbers to mimic the Lightning RAFG scheme. If Britain had developed a swept-wing fighter in the same timeline as the MiG-15 I think that for it to be in front-line service in 1972 would be pushing it a bit (and, no, I'm not forgetting the Hunters of No.45 and No.58 squadrons) but I do like those 1970's tactical markings.

Only a partial 'what if' as, apparently, the Vietnam Peoples' Air Force did operate the MiG-15bis and MiG-15UTI in a training role. I've made this one to populate my Vietnam install and provide some opposition in the 1954 to 1964 timeline. The lovely checkerboard rudder is from Paulopanz' Egyptian skin and the Vietnamese flag is used as a fin flash as a bit of artistic licence as regular viewers will know that I hate bare fins!

This is quite a simple one combining a North Korean skin (again, by Paulopanz) with the VPAF markings from the silver one - the only difference being I use a higher opacity on my decals.

I'm not really into Ace Combat but this is the X-02 Wyvern and it's quite a striking looking machine. I've just overpainted the Erusean markings and added some Soviet markings to the wings and fins.

This one hasn't quite worked out but this is the Avia S-99 (essentially a Me-109G-6) given a white Aussie tail but unfortunately some of the white paint is also present on the oil cooler. The last picture shows a 'panel finder' tool that you can normally use to track such things down but the oil cooler seems to cover quite a few areas and it's turned into a really niggly time-wasting exercise so I'll abandon this for now and crack open a beer!

I thought I'd get around the oil cooler problem by using the S-199 but the problem followed me from port to starboard. Oh well, worth a try.

Edit: We now have the tools to get around this!

As a contemporary of the Lightning I like to show the 'Fishbed' in RAF markings from time to time and this is the RAFG Lightning scheme from the early-mid 1970's. I might revisit this one in the future and show a lower demarcation line on a No.92 Squadron Fishbed. Perhaps 2 missiles might be better too!

A nice Short Stirling was released recently (normal RAF camo shown below) and I thought I'd simply overpaint the markings with SEAC markings and add a spurious letter and serial number based on a real world No.99 squadron Wellington. I had no idea Shorts had proposed a longer wing-span Centaurus powered version!

RAFSTIRLINGB1 by Spinners1961, on Flickr

BTW screenshots at night don't generally come out so well so I take them in daylight and add a bluey-black layer and then set the opacity to suit, normally 25-50%. It's a fair compromise but does lack the stars which the game actually does very well (e.g. the constellations are all there and move across the sky if you advance the time).

More SEAC shenanigans with the MiG-17F masquerading as the Gloster Grebe! This uses an East German skin for the Lim-6 with extra pylons.

The MiG-17PF would have made a classic British interceptor as it's got a limited number of missiles and short range! To explain, the inner wing pylons cannot carry a missile as big as the Skyflash and moving them outboard displaces the 400-litre drop tanks. The pylons need to be a bit deeper too as the Skyflash fins are touching the Grebe's wings. It does look quite good though!

Finflash relocated and the AA-1 'Alkali' missiles have been given a new white skin with stencilling to turn them into proper 'Redfire' missiles. Oh, I've also taken the opportunity to use No.72 squadron markings a squadron I've neglected a bit.
