Saab J36C Sparvhök - F11, Svenska Flygvapnet, 1967

I'm quite fond of this little baby delta and hope to release this Swedish version but there's a fair bit to do in packaging it up.

Su-9 'Fishpot-A' - Korean Peoples Army Air Force, 1970

I've been a bit busy with work and other hobbies this past week so it's been nice to get sat behind my PC this afternoon to knock up this KPAAF 'Fishpot' for no other reason than to use a version of the KPAAF roundel seen on another forum. It was easy enough to make the roundel so whilst I had my crayons out I've also created a new KPAAF skin for the AA-2 'Atoll'.

Sukhoi Su-9 'Fishpot-A' - Korean Peoples' Army Air Force, 1973

Whilst the camo is easy enough (a stock Vietnam terrain tile tweaked a bit) getting the undersurfaces to appear as silver was a bit trickier and involved a bit of masking out and good old fashioned trial and error!

McDonnell Douglas Phantom F-4 'ADV' - Dhimari Air Force, 1986

A few weeks ago I floated the idea that the RAF should have simply not bothered with the Tornado F.3 and simply upgraded the very capable Phantom FGR.2 to hold the line until an accelerated Eurofighter programme saw the Typhoon F.1 enter service in 1999-2000. I imagined the FGR.2 being converted to a new Phantom ADV standard including a longer radome to house the Foxhunter radar and as many of the Tornado F.3 toys as possible (JTIDS and digital data bus).

I'm unable to replicate this within 'Strikefighters' (I have tried!) but a new Phantom F-4E was released recently (probably one of the greatest 3D aircraft models ever) with a different breakdown in parts so I've just taken the nose gun parts off with a simple edit leaving some ugly gaps and requiring the aircraft to be posed so as not to show the mess. This almost brings me full circle to my first modelling 'what if' in 1973-1974 when I made the Airfix F-4J (all those parts and weapons!) and stuck the F-4E nose cone on it.

Even sexier with 'roos!

Mikoyan-Gurevich MiG-17K 'Fresco-G' - Soviet Naval Aviation, 1961

'Strikefighters' includes the main Soviet Cold War fighters and fighter-bombers that you'd expect to see so it's quite rare to see someone tackle one that it already included but 'cocas' has made this MiG-17K naval fighter from scratch and in two slightly different versions (four pylons and six pylons). I think the carrier is a repaint of the Melbourne.

Curtiss A-21C Chippewa - 596th BS, 397th BG, 9th AF, United States Army Air Corps, 1944

A really nice Petlyakov Pe-2 was released by the DAT boys recently, again in Soviet and (captured) Finnish versions and I thought I'd give it the Airfix B-26B 'Dee-Feater' treatment! Well, as best as I could anyway.

SPINNERS

Shenyang J-5AS - 2nd Fighter-Bomber Regiment, Parani Air Force, 1970

From Wiki - Strike Fighters primarily centers on a fictitious conflict in the Middle East between the Kingdom of Dhimar and the Empire of Paran from the late 1950s to the early 1970s. Although the countries and conflict may not be real, the aircraft and weapons used are completely accurate. The conflict is modeled as a typical Cold War era 'proxy' war between the USA and USSR where Dhimar gets help from the US and Paran uses imported Soviet equipment and expertise.

English Electric Canberra B.Mk.53 - No.110 'Knights of the North' Squadron, Israeli Air Force, 1957

Things are slightly slow around here due to work and other hobbies so a really simple one today showing the stock Third Wire Canberra B.6 and IDF markings. When I get a bit more time I fancy doing the blue and brown IDF camo seen on their Meteors and Vautours.

Curtiss P-37C Goshawk - 94th Pursuit Squadron, United States Army Air Corps, 1940

The boys at the DAT released a revamped MiG-3 recently, an aircraft that has always amazed me by looking so sleek and yet so wrong all at once. This is my take on the MiG-3 masquerading as the USAAC's pre-war hot ship.

Martin B-51A Panther - United States Air Force, 1949

A really well-kept secret was this new B-51 from Veltro2K. I've had a play with it for about a week now but was sworn to secrecy whilst the bugs were being wrung out. It comes with this NMF skin and also the glossy black night intruder scheme. Impressive!

Curtiss P-37C Goshawk - Fuerza Aérea del Ejército de Cuba, 1953

I've made this as an export version of my masquerade Curtiss P-37C but i guess it could just so easily be the real MiG-3.

Again, this uses the Airfix B-26 'Dee-Feater' as inspiration and whilst there's no fuselage D-Day stripes on it I'm quite please at how this one has gone! I'm pretty sure there'll be a spare 'B-XX' designation somewhere between the B-26 and Martin's B-51 and B-57.
