This is the stock French 'Bleu' skin for the Mirage IIIC adapted to fit the Mirage V. There's a bit of a mapping issue at the tip of the nose but I can live with it.

MiG-17F(J) - 3 Hikotai, Japan Air Self Defence Forces, 1978

Was it a coincidence that several MiG-17F's found their way to Japan a few short months after the infamous 1976 incident when Lt. Viktor Belenko defected with his MiG-25 Foxbat? Anway, sufficient MiG-17's were accquired to form an aggressor flight at Misawa serving both JASDF and visiting USAF Pacific Air Force units.

A stock MiG-17F skin with JASDF markings! That's a spicy meatball!

Just a quick version with the stock sharkmouth and No.36 squadron markings (a fictional squadron, numberplate never used).

An Egyptian scheme (by whiteknight06604, who has a particularly soft and blended style) with my IAF No.26 squadron markings.

Vought F-8EJ Crusader - No.204 Hikotai, Japan Air Self-Defense Force, 1972

After a long selection process the Vought F-8EJ was finally selected by the JASDF in 1962 as its standard interceptor-fighter. With it's impressive unrefuelled range, reliable Pratt & Whitney J-57-P-20J engine and powerful Magnavox APQ-94J radar the F-8EJ served with a total of eight JASDF squadrons with initial deliveries commencing in late 1964.

Compared to the superb multi-role F-8E, and because of Japan's own 'self-defense' status and imposed peace treaty terms, the F-8EJ was stripped of much of it's surface-attack capability but gained a modified APQ-94 radar, wing-mounted AIM-7E Sparrow missiles and also had a very useful anti-ship capability (deemed acceptable as being an 'anti-invasion' capability) and all eight 'Hikotai' had maritime attack and reconnaissance as a secondary role. The F-8EJ's served until the mid-1980's with the 302nd Hikotai being the last to surrender this very popular aircraft in JASDF service in 1985.

The F-8E comes with a sharkmouth skin and I've just recoloured it by using the same red as on my Hinomaru decal. Nice and simple (just like me) .

This just USES the cute little 203 Hikotai tail marking and also switches to a black nose.

A very good template exists for the RF-84 Thunderflash so I've done one of my experimental camo schemes, this one is called 'Forest Bubble' and is just circular patterns with the gradient brush and 20% opacity. What really sets this off is the stencilling (already on the template).

There are no less than 10 Floggers on a merged install (i.e. all four Series 2 titles rolled into one) and I've chosen the stock MiG-23P skin to make this AMI MiG-23 interceptor. Perhaps, when the wall came down, MiG's were leased to replace the F-104S!
