Things are slow at the moment as Mrs. Spinners is very poorly but I've had a request to do a Texas Air Force 'what if' so here's a Texan Voodoo that'll pave the way for a F-4 with some LS (Lone Star) serials and perhaps a Yellow Rose squadron marking.

I searched this site for ideas and used Bryan H's roundel and Cmdr_Blop's Texas Reach (AU Earth) flag as a fin flash but I might make slanted (left and right) versions for the F-4.

'LS' codes for Lone Star (will use 'YR' for Yellow Rose next time) with TAF serials using 3 prefix numbers (e.g. 791 from 1971).

SAAB A32D Lansen - Eskadrille 727, Royal Danish Air Force, 1969

When deliveries of the A32A (the attack version of the Lansen) to the Swedish Flygvapnet began in 1955 many NATO air forces cast envious eyes towards the Swedish Air Force and before long the Royal Danish Air Force had selected the Lansen as it's principal attack aircraft ordering 40 A32D's in 1957 for Eskadrille's 726 and 727 with the latter taking delivery of their first machines in 1959.

A re-packaged Lansen was released yesterday and the standard Swedish A32A scheme had me reaching for my RDAF markings in double-quick time. An amazing aircraft the Lansen and I just love that big Rb04 missile!

SAAB J32S Lansen - Staffel 18, Swiss Air Force, 1961

The Saab J32B Lansen all-weather interceptor featured a more powerful RM6A (Avon) engine than the 'A' attack model and had a new Ericsson air intercept radar and Saab S6 fire-control system with armament initially consisting of 4 x 30mm ADEN cannon. Entering service in 1958 the J32B soon won it's first export order when the Swiss Air Force selected the Lansen J32S (S for Switzerland) ahead of the Gloster Javelin Mk.50 (essentially refurbished ex-RAF Gloster Javelins) and received their first machines in early 1960 when Staffel 18 re-equipped with this superb all-weather interceptor.

A nice template exists for the Lansen so I thought I'd do a NMF Swiss J32S. The Staffel 18 shield on the fin took me ages to do so will be recycled!

And from later on in the J32S's career....

Too implausible for a backstory but I like the FAA's Mirage original camo scheme and have the F-111 template so it was just a matter of swapping out the colours and adding some decals including the Grupo 1 de Bombardeo 'Lincoln' disc in left and right handed versions.

This uses a new Texan 'starbar' designed by suhsjake over at Combat Ace and I've made into a decal and added a more traditional Texan flag although with a nice rakish slant to it and some yellow rose markings on the intake. Speaking of rakish, the Mirage F-1 is a pretty cool-looking jet!

Only a modest 'whif' as, of course, the Chinese operated MiG-21F's and built the J-7 by the thousand but this is the MiG-21MF in the stock Czech camo with my PLAAF markings including a suitable 'Chairman Mao' fin marking.

Dassault Mirage 5FM - Escadre de Chasse "Tigre", Royal Moroccan Air Force, 1970

The Mirage 5 was developed from an Israeli Air Force request for a simpler 'clear weather' version of the Mirage 3E with avionics reduced and repositioned, more fuel for attack missions and two additional stores pylons located towards the rear fuselage. In September 1966 Israel became the launch customer for this important new line of Mirages when they placed an order for 50 Mirage 5J's. However, rising tensions between Israel and their neighbouring Arab states during the early summer of 1967 allied to General de Gaulle's increasingly pro-Arab stance led to a French arms embargo to Israel announced on June 3rd, 1967 just two days before the Six-Day war despite Israel having paid in full for the aircraft.

By this time, the prototype Mirage 5 had flown and production was in full swing with the now embargoed Mirage 5J's beginning to stockpile at St. Cloud. But following the Mirage's dazzling combat record in the hands of Israeli pilots during the Six-Day war the air forces of many nations knocked on Dassault's door and one such nation was Morocco (formerly a French protectorate) who wanted the Mirage 5J's to supplement their recently acquired Northrop F-5A's. General de Gaulle readily agreed to this sale and Dassault made some minor modifications to the 5J's to export them as Mirage 5FM's to the Royal Moroccan Air Force in late 1968 with initial deliveries going to Escadre de Chasse "Tigre" based at Meknes, Northern Morocco.

This is the stock Libyan camo scheme that comes on the non-flyable Mirage 5D and I've added some new Morrocan markings (not a country I've done before) and the 'Mirage 5FM' script to the nose as a finishing touch. The pictures below are what I was going to do until I hit upon the real world 'Tigre' squadron.

Dassault Mirage 5FM - Escadre de Chasse "Tigre", Royal Moroccan Air Force, 1971

This is the standard stock French camo for the non-flyable Mirage 5F again with just the little addition of the 'Mirage 5FM' script on the nose plus my Moroccan Mirage markings and a new fin marking. Perhaps a few embargoed machines were already in French Camo when the deal went through? Anyhoo, at some stage I must give the Moroccan's the mighty F-4!!

The stock Third Wire Lightning comes with all four classic RAF skins (silver, RAF Germany green and silver, RAF Binbrook green and grey and RAF Binbrook grey) so a Swiss Lightning was a doddle and the Fliegerstaffel 16 fin badge (in left and right handed forms) took me far longer.
