A few pics from a recent visit to Cosford

When I see pics like these I'm always torn: on one hand, having the aircraft indoors means they'll be well-preserved, on the other hand, to keep cost down they're always stacked three high and impossible to properly photograph.

Its funny you say that, when I posted these last night, I decided to return to Cosford at the first opportunity and spend the day trying to get better shots. It is difficult there especially in the 'Cold War Hall'

Yeah,

not the easiest place for photos. And whatever you do don't take the family - the kid friendly sections shut down very early and my wife was left with 2 bored kids. OTOH if you can ever make it to Saumur Tank Museum in France they have a special area for kids with an APC, a jeep like small vehicle and a AA Tank from the 60's f0r them to climb over and play with - no OHS there. The rest of the family disappeared there and over 2 hours later they were still there. The youngest even wanted to go back the next day.
The Duetsche in Munich had science experiments ( including explosions) - I was annoyed I missed it whilst off taking photos.

Beauty ! Love the pic of the Valiant nose......what a sight. I've never seen one, and that angle really surprised me !

The underwing TSR shot is classic as well.......I can only just imagine standing there myself .

Well we have a model show there on the 6th of April where both What-if and TSR2 SIG's have stands, however the stands are around the exhibits so the photo ops are a bit pointless, but you get to see us lot instead.

There is a little play area at Newark Air Museum as well, and the staff are very kid friendly - the inside of a Shackleton with those wing spars to climb over makes a great adventure playground for a 3 yr old! ;)

I always drive past Newark on the way to Waddington, I'll have to stop and have a gander next time.

If you liked Newark, the you should try Bruntingthorpe - loads of planes + cockpits there they don't mind you crawling all over.  And of course there's the small matter of the Vulcan...

You should, its got very friendly staff, and you're free to get up close and personal with the planes.  They'll even open some of the planes if you ask (might be worth ringing in advance though).  Or you could get lucky like I did when they had the Shackleton open anyway).

Oh, and the model shop there is excellent!

Id love to see that museum one day.
I think the museum looks a bit too cramped. Too many aircraft in too little space. The Danish technical museum is much better. All exhibits on the ground, and you can touch them all (including a complete caravelle!)

Admittedly, it does look cramped on photographs of the Cold War Hall but once youre there, whoa man its superb, the other 3 hangers are well laid out.
