Did RAF used GBU-10 Paveway-II in Granby operations against Irak?

Thanks, Carlos

Yes Carlos, I'm pretty sure that all the frontline strike aircraft, Tornado, Jaguar & Buccaneer carried them at one time or another.

I don't think it's nice, you laughin'. You see, my mule don't like people laughin'. He gets the crazy idea you're laughin' at him. Now if you apologize, like I know you're going to, I might convince him that you really didn't mean it.

Ah, but are those GBU-10, or the Mk 13/18UK 'Paveway II' based on the 1,000 lb. British Mk 13/18 bomb?

I'm NOT positive, but I think that the RAF GBU's were all based on the British thousand pounder, as Harro says. Also I'm fairly certain that the Jags didn't use GBU's in frist Gulf war due to lack of designator aircraft.... but I could be wrong on this.

Ah, yes I think you're right guys, they're the version based on the 1,000lb bomb.  I often get confused since they are both called Paveway II.  So yes, the RAF used Paveway II, but no, they didn't use GBU-10!  Jags, I thought I'd seen a pic with Paveway mission markings, but I can't seem to find it so I could be wrong.

Thanks a lot, guys. In fact the first photo Simon posted gave me answer. The bombs I have are quite similar to those in Tornadoes.
-_- -_-

BTW, did not jaguar have a laser designator in the nose?

Think its a Ferranti laser range finder, not a designator.

Carlos,

The TIALD pod that can designate is a separate store that is carried by Tonkas, the fairing under the cockpit is for I believe a LRMTS like the Jag in GR.1 aircraft.

I'm not sure if has changed with the GR.4, but during Granby a seperate aircraft would carry TIALD & designated for those aircraft with Paveway.  So you wouldn't see a Paveway armed aircraft loaded with a TIALD pod.  TIALD was not quite ready for use by the start of the Gulf War & was rushed into serivce.  Buccaneers designated in the early days of the war, first with Pavespike, then TIALD & later in the conflict Tornadoes carried TIALD.

When I was at college we had a very intresting lecture from one of the guy's involved in the development of the TIALD pod.
He told us that at the time that the pods were deployed out to the gulf only 2 pods actually existed (the prototypes) and only a few Tornados were wired up for them.

He handed out some info about the pods which I will now try to find, if possible!!
Reality is for people who can't handle Whif!!

Now with more WHATTHEF***!! than ever before!

The Airfix 1/48 Gulf War Tornado had two decals for the TIALD pod, one called 'Sandra', one called 'Tracey' after 'The Fat Slags' in Viz comic, so that seems to go with it.  I read, (but lost the link now!) that four Tornadoes were fitted to take the TIALD pod & flown out to Iraq.
