Blimey Zac, you're going to bust a blood vessel!

Here's one.  How would you whiff an RAF Spit???  Just about every role the Spit could have been used in, it was, & similar with colour schemes.  Subtle things like sqaudron codes or personal markings are possible, but don't really change the aircraft much.  You can go crazy too, but what about making it believeable?  As far as I know, the only real colour scheme you could put it in that it didn't wear would be the Coastal Command white scheme, but then I wouldn't be suprised if someone came up with a real profile.

Well, im going to enter with a RAF Spitfire Vb floatplane...

Mossie

Ah, yes, forgot about the floatplanes, the Mk.I version could be a go-er too.  The Mk.III & Mk.IV (Griffon powered, not the PR.IV) variants never saw service so they could be definate subjects.  Especially the Mk.IV, an early Griffon Spit with no less than six cannon!
I don't think it's nice, you laughin'. You see, my mule don't like people laughin'. He gets the crazy idea you're laughin' at him. Now if you apologize, like I know you're going to, I might convince him that you really didn't mean it.

Radish

There were at least TWO white Spitfires....a Mk IXc used in Italy (PV115 if memory serves me right) which was standard markings, a black code "V" behind the roundel and a yellow spinner with black spral.
A postwar XVI was white with post-war roundels, a code RW293 (???) and a single blue letter "B" after the roundel.

You could "do" a maritime patrol version of all-white with Grey/Green uppers and white leading edges. In the Far East, the uppers could be Earth and Dark Green?

Why not a Spitfire "aces" aircraft with "special" markings?
Why not an RAF-Polish sqn, with a big-checked insignia on the fuselage side instead of a roundel, but otherwise normal? Same for Dutch or czech? After all, some French RAF squadrons used their roundel colours.

Why not use some WW1 type schemes on Spitfires.....you know, Dark Olive-ey colour on top, cream underneath, streamers from the wingtips and bright markings, or just use the normal codes but with WW1 type roundels?

Why not use some wild colour scheme but normal markings? Grey low-viz? SEAsia type? Israeli-type for Desert use? Why not Silver dope/natural metal with pre-war markings and bright squadron colours?

Yeah, I was thinking Coastal Patrol.

But remember the US rebuilt a Mk.IX with extra internal tankage, and it ended up with a range similar to a Mustang. What If? the US had set up a Spitfire production line, building Spits with their internal tankage? Might have been interesting? I've some of these P-53s planned for VIIIth AF use...the Blue Nosed Bastards of Bodney, for example. Underwing tanks from P-51s.
Also....the Spitfire was the ONLY US fighter NOT to have a P-number as far as I'm aware.
Hence my use of the P-53.

Ah, I remember now Lee, looking forward to the High-speed Spit especially.

There was the Mk.IIa(LR) as well, with a 40 Gallon tank under one wing, although only a small amount were built.  Pavla do a conversion in 1/72, hmm, that one might be a go-er.

Gentlemen,

If I may be so bold as to cast my vote for this now.  I would be interested in doing the Lithuanian Spit (as it is my ethnic heritage).  Did a little looking around and found a Gloster Gladiator...

Green wings and a natural aluminimum finish...not enough tsalrent to do those fancy color plates from previous posts...

ALL BLACK - ENOUGH SAID !!!

Thanks Joe for resurrecting this thread! I'd be game to do a 303 Sqn machine with Polish checkerboard roundels, a new RF-D for Jan Zumbach. That said, give me enough kits and I'll do everything within my power to whiff 'em!

Any firm idea of dates yet?

Weaver

As a latecomer to this discussion, can I get a bit of clarity please: what exactly is proposed for the GB? Is going to be a "Mk.1 in export colours" GB, as per the linked thread in the first post, or will it be an "anything goes" Spitfire Whiff GB, or something else?

I hope it's for any spit, All my ideas involve mkIX and later.

The 1/72 Mk.I in export colours is for the What If SIG Spitfire 70th Anniversary 'mini-theme' for the Telford show.  I don't see any reason why the GB shouldn't be opened up to any Spitfire or Seafire mark (including the Spiteful & Seafang) in any scale.

Think it as stated before that any mark would fit the GB (course, I am planning the Dutch mk I).

i support this GB idea, and there's plenty of whiffed spits to be build, as shown here  ;D

http://www.strijdbewijs.nl/birds/spitfire/geheim/spitproject.htm

http://www.strijdbewijs.nl/birds/spitfire/geheim/spitfiles.htm

and since the GB is nearing im think of building:

Spitfire A-Mk.40 (Advance spitfire with SNEB rockets and bombs)
Spitfire F-Mk.32 (1950's Air Defence fighter with Firestreak missiles)
BAe/Supermarine Super Spitfire FGR.60 (21st century spitfire, powered by an Rolls-Royce AE2100D3 turboprop engine, armed with AGM-65, AIM-9M/X, Sea Skua,.....

or even (for our friend Brian Da Basher) "Spits with Spats"

man those are good ideas, i better start ordering spits
