Hmmmm....if this Airfix kit messes up as I suspect it will, I might just do that conversion in 1:72, Captain!
How could you do that to us?  I want to see it finished.  It's a great start.

I totally agree! I really like what you've done so far   And you've inspired me to completely rethink a project I'm doing to make a sort of Super Il-4. I'd been looking at extending the length and span of an actual Il-4 but, having seen this, I think that I'd get a better result by chopping down a (Revell) B-17. Now all I've got to do is find the time (and a Tu-2 donor kit for the engines) - - -

Oh, okay...here's some other attempted work done on the B-21 Beastie.

Do you have a plan of attack?

Yep, the plan would have been to send it to Kitnut617 and let HIM figure it out!  I've already hacked it to bits, removed the section in the hopes that 1:72 scale would lend me enough fudge-factor----it doesn't, by the way.   :banghead:

Actually, in hind-sight, the Airfix kit was probably the worst choice as it's a poorly executed/engineered kit to begin with, molded in brittle plastic, is segmented to allow "moveable flying surfaces," and the starfields of raised rivet details make replacement sections and putty/sanded areas nearly impossible to blend in.  I should have used my Matchbox kit but it's just sooooooo nice.

You'll see I have Thor's Hammer at the ready in case this little challenge fails to pan out:

I've decided the Airfix kit is simply of too poor quality to succeed in this kitbash.  But, because I still really believe in the concept, I'm going to mess up an Academy version of the same subject for the same ultimate result.  Stand by...

I'm really glad to see this one emerge from the back of the bench, Mr Howling Mouse! I raise my glass to your efforts and hope your lastest rather large addition to your toolkit goes unused on this project.

You know that would look really cool scaleorama'd into a fighter  ;D

Believe me, I *LIKE* what you're doing and would hate to see the job halted. I also have always liked the B-23 Dragon look, but your version seems peppier and more aggressive. PLEASE keep going!

I believe in "It's your feckin' model", but if I were you I would cut the horizontal tailplanes (and elevators) so only the outer 3/4 is used, and perhaps find a way to use the tail MINUS the rudder as the tail-and-rudder. The large empennage of the B-17 was made for the large bomber and more proportional to a larger plane than you will be making. You might also try the Boeing 247 for empennage (a Boeing product about the same size) and maybe incorporate the curving B-17 tailfin into it.

I know, I know, its all *MORE WORK*, but....I still like where it's going.

Press on!
My mind is like a compost heap: both "fertile" and "rotten"!

Yep, I will be downsizing the stabs and likely reshaping the tailfin, too.  But, keep in mind, part of my T-Tail fetish is likely driven by some general desire for aircraft to have oversized rear ends.  I'm sure there's nothing Freudian about that, whatsoever....
