Captain Canada

I'm honestly trying to clean up a whack of old half-starts in an effort to get some sort of 'zen' in my modelling life.

Here's the Backfire I started a few years back. If you recall, my LHS messed up the price tag and I got this baby for only 26 bucks.

I also had a poll to help my try and figure out which way to go with it :Bomber w/ buddy pods, AShW, or a giant weasel type....

I can't recall which one you guys picked, but I did hack out the missile bay and made my own bomb bay. I'm pretty sure I was going to install some rotary launchers. There are some awesome pics on the Research Corner of ARC of B-1B launchers.

What scale is that thing - it looks huge!

Captain Canada

Yup...it's pretty darn big, 72nd scale. That's why it was such a deal at $26.

Backfire?  Thought you were posting about an unfortunate curry incident.  Good luck with it Todd!  I like the Wild Weasel version you've drawn, simply because you never see the Backfire in anything but grey, most splash of colour you see is Ukranian markings.
I don't think it's nice, you laughin'. You see, my mule don't like people laughin'. He gets the crazy idea you're laughin' at him. Now if you apologize, like I know you're going to, I might convince him that you really didn't mean it.

I gotta say a 'Wild Weasel' version would be cool - a supersonic variation on Dale Brown's EB-52 Megafortress escort bomber!

Yep, I remember this!  And, if your recent SAR work is any indication of your current heightened degree of talent, this is going to be a thread worth following!  Go for it.  And the Broncobra, too.  Sheer genius!

This one's gonna be great, Cap'n! I really like the idea of a Backfire in Maple Leafs and I think the bottom camo scheme would really accent this beauty!

Really great job on the bay !  It is a beast of a kit, isn't it?

You will remember to move back the wings, wont you? See this link for the errors on the Italeri Backfire:

Thanks for the comments, guys. I was wrestling with the bomb bay last night, and almost gave up and just made her a plain old bomb bay....but I think I'll have another go at the rotary deal.

The silver and red scheme would look a beauty on her, but she's gotta be all beat up and camo'd for me.

And I don't think I'm gonna go thru all the trouble buddy did. The nose is the most obvious addity of the kit, but I kinda like it. And since mine's a CDN example, we musta changed the radar or somat !

I have this kit as well, will be interesting to see what you turn her into Todd.

Glad to hear you are sticking with the rotary bay. I built mine basically oob, and the funny part is that there were a number of modifications done the the Backfire, so the kit is not that wrong...besides, when someone comes over to the studio, they say, "hey, neat backfire!" , not, "the nose is .001 mm out of length", etc.

Of course, the Sith tiltrotor throws them off first. Chuckle.

I can hardly wait to see this baby all dressed up and ready for action!
