G'day all,

I have three to choose from for this build in mind and I've roughed up the art giving a vague idea of what i'm looking at.  There was another, but it's hit backburner land in a rather major way.  Hopefully I'll get two or three done within the time frame, but certainly one at least.

Regards,

Mav

BTW: Forgot to mention, these will all be 35th scale.

I like the idea of an anti-tank S Tank

Maverick

Morning All,

I've decided upon the AT S-Tank as my first build and have been working on it for a large chunk of yesterday.  With my University semester restarting on Monday, I'm trying to push through this build so that I can have it completed within the relevant time frame without it impacting horribly on my studies.

Thus far, I've completed the major components of the Hull, have opened the Commander's and Driver's Hatches (for a later crew I intend to build to inhabit the beast), blanked off the rear-most Hatch in preparation for the ATGW system and fitted the gun pod above the former main gun area.

One thing that has slightly changed is the need to increase the overall height of the missile mount as this impacted quite heavily on the Commander's Cupola this also requiring some rework of the FN-MAG mounting to clear the area.

I'm impressed. I'll have to try a few Whiff builds myself!

The mount and gun pod could do with detailing tho. It looks very 60s sci-fi at the moment!

Maverick

Thanks for your thoughts RS.

I guess there's really two things about the S-Tank build.  The first being that the gun pod itself is from a 32nd scale Helo kit, so if it's plain, that's just because of how they built it and secondly, I'm a child of the 60s, so I guess 60's sci-fi looks ok to me.

I like the idea of a recon variant of the Strv-103

What with its low silhouette, gas turbine engine, and its self digging/dozing capability!

I have always liked the idea of an APC/IFV variant of the S-Tank also, with a couple more road-wheels, and lengthened hull, and in typical Swedish fashion a turreted Bofors 40mm gun (a pre-CV-90 of its day). A some-what Swedish BMP-1.
Te only problem would be that the S-Tanks engines are rear-mounted!
Then again wasn't the Ikv-90 light tank a frontal-engine mount arrangement?

I've always thought the Strv 103 would be a neat APC and the Trump kit really points towards it having the back panel of the hull as a seperate piece so an easy ramp could be knocked up.  Move the engine components towards the nose in place of the gun, and I'd say 'plausible' as they say on Mythbusters.

I'm pretty sure you're right about the Ikv-90 being fore-engined as well.

As for recon, that's even easier as there's no real stress about where the engine is and removing the gun gives plenty of room for a telescoping recon suite.  Lucky the Trump Strvs aren't too expensive!!  Looks like I might have to score another couple.

Another idea would be for a Strv 103 with the main gun replaced with a system similar to thhat proposed for the Panther Anti-Tank/Anti-Helicopter vehicle:

G'day gang,

Just an update on everything Maverick-wise for this build.

I'm trying to concentrate on the builds for this GB in preference to much anything else recreationally, as Uni has started again as of 3 weeks ago and is taking up a sizeable chunk of my time & effort.

The Recce LAV (which looks I guess broadly similar to the AVGP family) is still on hold awaiting a visit to the LHS for some required paints.

I've another two builds that I'm in the process of completing also that I haven't 'mocked up' profile wise but will leave for a surprise on their completion.  I will only say that one is based on the T-55 hull and the other on the Souma S-35 hull.  Both are again 'left of centre' thoughts on mods to these two vehicles.

Greg, I've always wondered about that anti-helo system.  I don't know if Warpac helos practised NOE engagements, but I'm thinking it could be a problem 'locking on' if this were the case.  Are you aware of the missile that was to be used, or was it a new-build idea?

John,

There seems to have been some variance in exact weapons carried - some sources refer to TRIGAT whilst others mention HOT3 and Stinger.

Thanks for that Greg,

The artwork you put up seemed to show a Trigatish () type weapon, and I believe it was designed for either engagement.  I guess the HOT/Stinger combo might have been a back up plan in case the Trigat system didn't work as advertised.

I'm really impressed by the AFV's you've turned out Mav! I think it takes a lot of skill to build both aircraft and armor so convincingly! My hat's off to you.

Thanks for that Brian.  Coming from someone who builds both quality & quantity, it's well appreciated.  Once I've decided to finish out the GB, I'll post all pics into my normal build thread for everyone to have a gander if they so choose.

John
