Any subject/genre, whatever, so long as it's a What If that ultimately results.

What's the catch, you ask?

The build has to incorporate something that you've personally never tackled before.  This can be the general subject (maybe you've never built a ship model but want to try?) or a technique (do you have an airbrush you're terrified of?) or perhaps you've never dared to attempt a vacform or a resin kit.  Maybe you've never cut into and modified a kit before but you just need the motivation to jump in?

A bonus is that others will learn from your in-progress building updates.  Because, if you've never attempted the particular challenge before, chances are that others on the forum are in the same boat.

Would of course rely heavily on the honor system for what constitutes personal "new ground" for you but if you're an expert at a given subject matter or technique, chances are that we know about it anyhow.

If we do this, I would gladly donate a worthy prize.

An interesting concept, indeed.  For me, it could be something as 'simple' as scale-o-rama or something more complex.  I'm not sure I'm up for this right now, as other things are taking priority, but I like the idea.

I've never tried a vac......to be honest, the only kit I have is a Tutor, and I don't want it to be my guinea pig ! I'll have to source another kit, but this would be the motivation to get off my donkey and try it.

Sounds interesting.  I'm going to have to think about this for a while and come up with something new.

Interesting - what proposed timeframe/duration?

All hail the God of Frustration!!!

Radish

Never done a vac, or airbrushed (but had one before I sold it), not built a multi-media thingy with resin, etched brass.
Any injection moulded "categories" I've never built? Er? Railway engine (apart from The Rocket when I was about 8 and dad built a lot so it don't count!).
And I've never built a boat on the sea, or an aircraft carrier EVER!!

Fancy a boat at sea, but how to whiff it.......my mind is churning!!

I'm tackling a 1/76 armour kit at the moment which is a first for me, but building one in 1/35 would be something different.  I've hacked a kit together, but it's still only half finished.  I've not done anything with resin other than trim parts down, I've not actually put one together.  I've airbrushed one kit before it packed up!  I got a new Badger about 18 months ago which still hasn't been used.  I've not done large kit since I built a Vulcan when I was about forteen, similar with Motorbike kits.  I've never built a boat/ship kit.  Got part way through a kit of VW New Beetle before loosing parts, but otherwise never done a car, got an idea for that.  Never done any figure painting, other than pilots.

So plenty to think about!
I don't think it's nice, you laughin'. You see, my mule don't like people laughin'. He gets the crazy idea you're laughin' at him. Now if you apologize, like I know you're going to, I might convince him that you really didn't mean it.

BlackOps

I've been getting bolder and trying new things lately so this makes me wonder what I haven't tried yet, after thinking about for a while I've realized that I haven't tried painting a bare metal finish yet (been kind of avoiding it).  I'm pretty sure I've got a Phantom in my stash that might look interesting in BMF.  Of course I'm dreading even thinking about it but dangit I've gotta try it sometime.

I think this is a great idea for a group build, It 's always cool to try new stuff :)

Ones I could do would be...

wh-if armor, but then again that's what the armor gb is for(yeah i'll start... eventually)

anything other than injected plastic(excuse to go send mr anigrand some money?)

Good question, Greg.  I don't know.  I'd be willing to leave that up to the participants in light of other GB's scheduled.

For me, the horizon to overcome would have to be a resin kit.  There's a couple in my stash that I just don't have the guts to try without external motivation (you guys).  I'm just afraid I'd end up permanently affixed to some chunk of resin....and probably half-way up my left nostril at that!  I think, once through the initial trepidation barrier, whatever new ground each of us breaks would thereby open up a whole new side of the hobby.

As for you, Mr. Cthulhu, is there actually ANYTHING you haven't already tackled when it comes to art/models/etc.?

You know, I also have two resin kits I've yet to attempt for fear of botching them, that might actually be a better challenge for me too.

Count me in! I've always been impressed with the bare metal foil look, but I've never attempted it. Until now that is.

I'll be reading up on the technique.
