He 100H-1 WIP pics

Here is the start of my 1/72 scale He 100H-1 based on the Lindberg kit.

Notice the thin white outline on the left fuselage side, this is part of a plastic shim I am using to widen out the fuselage a bit, also compare the tiny kit prop to the planned prop I intend to use from an old Fw 190D-9 I scrapped. There will be a lot of putty used when I try to blend in the wings to the fuselage, I will be trying Milliput for the first time on this project.
This plane will have a T-tail and a fin fillet added to increase the fin size.

There is not much to see in this update but should have more new pics later this weekend.



Below are pics of my other new model I will be starting this weekend, the very old (but still good) Revell Bf 109G-10, check out the dust on the box top!(pre-weathering?)


In this shot notice the very aged decals...I bought this model well over 20 years ago.

You've piqued my interest, Matrixone! I have a feeling I'm going to enjoy this one immensely! Aren't those He-100 kits great for whiffing?

Brian,
All those older Lindberg kits are ideal for whiffing, they are not that good as 'real' aircraft models anymore and using them as whiffs would actually be a big improvement.
I hope Lindberg will release their line of 1/72 scale kits again, the Me 410 and Do 335 were my favorites and would make for some simple but interesting what-ifs.

Hi, another Heinkel 100 conversion...nice! but a T-Tail...Oi, that's my idea...(well actually no it was advised by John Howling Mouse on the forum, great idea chap!)

A while back I built a Huma Me 309 and made it into a T-tail and liked how it made a big difference in its appearence and decided to to the same to my He 100H-1, I also wanted this one to have a T-tail because JHM is a fan of the T-tail designs and were it not for him I would not have had this kit in the first place.

The T-tail certainly makes the he100 look the part.  I was wondering what impact it would make on such a design? Certainly many 'Luft46' style jet designs have incorporated T-tails.

What scheme are you finishing yours in, have you decided?  I eventually narrowed mine down to 2 as mentioned on my post. Jg54 or a Heinkel 'prototype' primer finish.

My He-100 will be a high altitude flyer so it will get a camouflage scheme of gray paints RLM 76, 77, and 75. Not sure about the markings yet but I might give them a slight overspray of 76 on the national markings like a few Fw 190's had late in the war.

I have been thinking about adding wing drop tanks to this model, there is not much room for fuel in that fuselage!

No update pics this weekend, I just finished up a long work week with plenty of O.T. hours too so almost no work has been done to any of my models the last few days, but I at least got the fuselage together and puttied and did some more work getting the wings ready for attaching them to the fuselage. There will be a few in-progress posted this time next week.

Drop tanks would suit your version well I think and Greys are fitting, Being a Heinkel design, maybe some kind of aerodynamic slipper tank to fit on the belly or laterally under the wings? that would be different from the usual bf109 and fw190 style tanks!  I like the spinner spiral, very neat work.
Can't wait for the new pics mate, Its going to look the Biz!

I am not afraid to admit my ignorance. I am new here. Is the He 100h-1 a German x plane, a paper project, or is the design an original of one of yours? Hows about some back story. It's a cool design and eventually I'll need to build enemy aircraft to go up against my planes. I would be happy to steal this design.

The He 100 is a German design and a few prototypes were made but it was not produced in large numbers.
My version of the He 100 was not a real design and is 100% what-if and the goofiest looking model I have ever attempted to build yet! I will attempt to make this thing look airworthy.

The ''mission'' of the He 100H-1 was to fly high above the bomber stream and draw the P-51 escort fighters up and away from the bombers and get them to fight at altitudes where the Mustangs did not have as big a performance advantage, the He 100H-1 could easily turn inside the Mustangs at high altitudes. While the Mustangs were fighting off the He 100H-1's the other Luftwaffe fighters (Bf 109G, Fw 190A/D, and Me 262's) would stand a better chance of getting to the bombers.

it never saw full front line service but those built were used in propaganda films to make it look like the type was in full combat use.
Heinkel also used them in their own factory defence unit.

Well, that, and simply because T-Tails are a proven way to make any aircraft look 1000% more cool, intriguing, dynamic and sexy...
