With all the various aerials and pods removed - and a ton of windows - it would look very cool.

In fact it would look pretty much like a Comet 4 with a BIG baggage pannier............  ;D
Kit's Rule 1 ) Any aircraft can be improved by fitting longer wings, and/or a longer fuselage
Kit's Rule 2) The backstory can always be changed to suit the model

...and I'm not a closeted 'Take That' fan, I'm a REAL fan! :)

Regards
Kit

Could give it a go on my vacform kit in the stash.

That's pretty much what I was thinking. And having a similar airframe for a transport would be great for pilot proficiency etc. No ?

I have always thought that a streched one in Virgin Atlantic markings would look good.
Thankfully I only have one Nimrod in the stash.

Over the years I've stretched the Nimrod forward of the wings. You would need two or three kits for this.
The shortened Nimrod does have that bizjet stance about it or bomber trainer.
Although I did have an idea to kitbash the Nimrod with the Caravelle (will check spelling)!

When did the Nimrod camo scheme switch from white over grey to Hemp over grey? Was Hemp applied to the MR.2s as they came into service, or were in-service aircraft repainted at some point?

The Wooksta!

Probably the early 80s.  Modern RAF isn't my field, so that's my best guess.

Bill Gunston's "The World's Military Aircraft" published in 83 contains the following in a Nimrod caption:

"XV261 is one of the current fleet of MR.1s, now painted in the standard camouflage  of 'hemp' and light aircraft grey."
So I got that going for me...which is nice....

Well, whenever is was, the first attempt at it wasn't very successful. This photo was given to me by one of the painters who worked on it, and which was taken moments after it was rolled out of the paint shop. Apparently, the base commander was livid and was going to discipline the charge-hand until the charge-hand showed him the work order sheet specifying what paint to use and what he had used ---  The aircraft didn't get repainted until after it's first major overhaul.

Ouch.

That one looks like it's a splash of dark green camo and some older roundels away from a BoB commemorative scheme.

I Guess some time after operation corporate. The Nimrods used down south were still in white and grey. The scheme may have come about as a result of the punch up. after all a white top Nimrod sitting on the tarmac at Wideawake would stand out a bit from above.
I always hope for the best.
Unfortunately,
experience has taught me to expect the worst.
