Hey all!

Yup, for real, I'm working on a GB entry! Will post pics soon, want to keep the subject a secret, but I'm pretty sure she's my first ever non-aircraft whiff. Inspired by a novel and a film. Stay tuned....

BTW does a pair of stands/display bases count as spare parts?

Anything from dis-similar kits or even scraps of plastic, wood, cardboard, paper, etc. counts Zac! Just remember, you've got to post pics of the parts you intend to use for your project to eligible.

I'm really glad you could play along with us!

When you say "dis-similar" kits, though, don't you mean they have to be from former builds/discards?  For example, I have a pair of new kits that I've swapped the wings on but that wouldn't count, would it?

The parts used can either be from different "new" kits or recycled from previously built kits. Personally, I think extra points should be awarded for recylcing old models, but both are allowed, as are scratchbuilt parts.

Anyways, slightly back to topic now....the parts pics!

Black arrows point to some, but not all, components I will use in my spares box. Visible are a Minicraft display stand, the cowl and spinner of a radial engine, a grey disc/bowl, a Heller Super Frelon rotor head, and a partially hidden undernose cannon fairing

The Airfix display stand which has allowed my plan to come to fruition....already the Minicraft stand is cemented underneath

Miscellaneous parts shortlisted for use. Some were later discarded, when the model is complete I'll post a pic showing what each part is and where its from

The cockpit canopy/windowscreen.....does this look otherworldly at all? I think it's an undernose cannon port?

The hood on the bench, with the top part of the legs drying. Yes, legs! Mwahahahaha!

[Richard Burton impression]No-one would have believed in the last years of the nineteenth century that this world was being watched keenly and closely by intelligences greater than man's and yet as mortal as his own...with infinite complacency men went to and fro over this globe about their little affairs, serene in their assurance of their empire over matter.....yet across the vast gulf of space, intellects vast and cool and unsympathetic, regarded this earth with envious eyes...and slowly and surely, drew their plans against us....[/Richard Burton impression]

DUN-DUN-DUHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHN, DUN-DUN-DUHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHN!!!

That's right....my Styrene Junkyard concoction is none other than a Martian fighting-machine from HG Wells' truly classic novel, The War Of The Worlds. My interpretation is largely from the descriptions in the book, as well as the masterful tripods designed by Industrial Light And Magic for Steven Spielberg's 2005 film adaptation.

I'm rather excited. And, as we have until June to complete them, my current lack of legs for the machine isn't a problem! Haha!

Enjoy. More updates as and when.

Zac this one is truly inspired! My hat's off to you for your creativity and imagination! You're definitely on your way towards building a contender!

I'm constantly amazed at what people around here do with junk.  This one looks great.  A clever idea.

We don't just embrace insanity here.  We feel it up, french kiss it and then buy it a drink.

Where's the blushing smilie?

Thanks guys! As soon as I first saw Spielberg's version I thought "God I want one of those". It was the first film to actually scare me.

I'd love to do a 1:72 tripod too but for the moment this is good enough. No further progress tonight, I just wanted to acknowledge your comments. Mr Miller, glad to hear I'm not alone!

Wooow! The Giant Hand strikes back at the aliens! And apparently, it can toss them around like nothing seen before! Mankind is on its way to victory!

Do I see a Buchón  in the left edge of "legs drying" photo?

BTW: I love your design!

It had a hood in which a martian sat ;D

Thats funny I was only listening to that CD yesterday in the car. Still a classic some 30 years later.

Looks good Zac can't wait to see how this finishes up.
