Help!!!

I wanted to get the Avenger / Skyrocket kitbash in primer so I could see what I still needed to work on. I bought Testors #1237 flat gray primer. I washed the model, shook the can well for a long time and primed.  The effin crap is glossy and won't dry. Does anyone know what is wrong. How can I fix it? Am I gonna have to strip it. That would be a ruttin disaster. There is no way I'm gonna be able to mask off the engines and interior well enough if I have to spray  easyoff on this thing. Any suggestions?

What a bummer! I can't make any suggestions, but I would try to wet sand it off the best I could. hope it works out for you!

I bought this from Hannants, I've not seen it anywhere else.  It's in paste form but I have to say I've not tried it myself yet, I got it to strip my B-36 where I totally screwed the outer paint job but didn't want to damage any of the interior paintwork when I stripped the paint off:

I still say give it some time to dry.  How long ago did you paint it?  It could just be a mis-labelled can (if anyone's gonna screw that up, it would be Testors).
You can always dullcoat it later (if it dries) for future coats of paint.

Kitnut, thanks for the link, I marked that as a favorite in about 10 seconds. Being from the colonies I was not really aware of what Hannants was , I had seen it mentioned on several threads, but I assumed they were some local hobby shop.
JHM I think I may have freaked prematurely, it's still glossy but it is much less sticky today. I have used Testors flat gray primer before and it dried  in just a few minutes(and was flat). I painted it Sunday afternoon and yesterday evening late  I was still leaving fingerprints. Today it is better and I think if I give it time it will be ready for a coat of dullcote. I bet it is mislabled, it looks like gloss gull gray.

Depending on what paint was actually in the can, you might be able to remove the worst of it using a solvent.  Just rub it with a rag dampened with solvent and see what happens.  It might take off the worst sticky parts.  I'd try mineral spirits and alcohol and see if one or the other of them works.

Thanks Ed, I think it's gonna be alright. It's still glossy but seems to be drying, at least I no longer leave fingerprints.

I would say that the paint has probably been settled a long time, I've had similar problems before with old tins of paint.  Give the can a really good shake, several times.  Then do it once, even twice more for good measure & test it on a scrap piece first.  Even if it does it again, don't right off the Testors cans unless you've heard others have had the same problem, it could be a dodgy batch or your supplier has had the box stored next to a radiator or something.  Try it again unless you're really not happy with it, preferably from another supplier to make sure it's different batch.

I always shake my cans 3 to five minutes depending on can size. I've used probably 30 cans of Testors flat primer. This can had to be mislabled , it looks like Gloss Gull gray. It seems to be drying, just slowly. I have had good luck in the past with Testors.I used it before I graduated to the airbrush and never saw the need to spray primer with the Badger when the spraybomb always worked before.

Throw the Testors out...buy some Krylon automotive primer.  You can get it at most auto parts stores, and it is ten times better.

Yep, ditto: Krylon Sandable Primer (comes in grey, red oxide, and white).  Perfect degree of filling in minor sanding marks while leaving every rivet detail intact!

Lightly brush on some lacquer thinner, the thinner might do the trick to kick the paint of to start the curing process. Pick a small area and give it a try. Again, lightly apply almost dry brushing, let it sit do not handle. After a few hours check to see if it worked.
