No, I'm not undergoing chemo ;D. I went into the LHS today and scanned the paint racks until the lady behind the till said "Looking for anything in particular?" "Yeah, I need to get some hemp." Weird look. Explanation. "Never heard of it" she replied.

So, what am I looking for here? Preferably acrylic. Believe it or not I've never done anything in that colour before.

Tamiya's desert tan is a close one...you might need to mix in some olive if you want a fresh look.  For straight hemp (not cured) use nato green, thinned with about 20% gray.

Not like I know what it looks like, or anything. :)

Humbrol 168, Xtracolor X016, for the 80's version of Hemp.

Apparently there are two versions of hemp, one used in the seventies (BS2600 4049), one in the eighties (BS4800 10 B 21).  As far as I know, only the 80's version is readily available, you'd have to mix your own for the seventies version.  I doubt anyones going to really notice anyway, but you know what a funny bunch modelers can be.  There's not a lot of difference from what I can gather, the 70's shade is a touch darker so if you want to be deadly accurate, add a bit of dark grey to taste.

Got ya beat there mate, the Toronto Aerospace Museum has the entire tail of XV239, the MR2 which crashed into Lake Ontario in '95. Kind of wish we didn't though...

Thanks fellows, I'll make a note of those.

At Aeroventure in Doncaster, Yorkshire is the nose section of Nimrod R.1 XW666 (not suprisingly, known as Damian by the crews) after it ditched into the Moray Firth.  Fortunately, unlike XV239 there where no fatalities.  Not so good as a paint chip though, it's stored outside & fading a bit!

Snagged some of the Gunze product today at Aviaton World. It doesn't seem to look like the paint on any Nimrod I remember, so either my memory is fading (not unlikely in my advanced years), my eyes are going funny (they always warned me that would happen), or I totally stuffed up and Nimrod's never wore hemp (if so then I'll blame the drink). Not to worry, it's a whiffer anyway, and it's my fecking model!
