Thanks very much for the information on those other grass matts.

I have already bought some of those products and they are not what I am looking for.
There are some nice products in the Scenic Express catalog that I am looking at right now, the only real problem with these products is their very high price and what you see in a catalog is not always what you get when your order arrives!

That last shot of the Ta-152 is a total keeper, Matrixone! I think if you sprayed a little "dust" on the grass to take of the newness and add some variation it would work well.

I actually think the contrasting colours look nice.  Not all plants lose their colouring in the fall at the same rate, or regain it in the spring. Now I don't think your mat will do for a summer scene, but it works for spring and autumn.

It looks alright for 48 models but definately not in the 72 scale. Looks way to big there. The brown spots might benefit from a little misting with some greens to blend both colors together though.
And I agree with Brian. The Ta-152 looks smashing.

Thanks for the further input and for the comments on the model. -_-

For those interested, Scenic Express has some great products that look like they might work well for aircraft dioramas, the Silfor Grass Matts look really good but are expensive.
I saw another product that might be useful, its called ''Urban Decay'' by Busch and is a printed thin cardboard sheet 8 1/4 x 5 3/4 inches, you get two sheets per package.

Matrixone, guess what came in the mail today?  Three types of the Silfor Grass matts (I wanted some variation in color).  Fantastic stuff!  Self-adhesive clumps that you just pluck off the clear backing sheet and plunk into place on your diorama.  I took some pics but I'm on a different laptop right now.

Those Silfor products are very high quality as you are now finding out, I will be getting more of their products in the future.

Here are the pics I promised yesterday.  I haven't actually tried applying the product to a diorama: only problem I can foresee is a lack of adhesion if your diorama display used anything granular in advance of this grass.

But it is amazing how good it looks in person. The individual clumps are nicely varied in size and length. I picked up 3 shades of the product and I believe they will blend very nicely together.  With some bare patches left b/w the varied little clumps, it should look uber-realistic.

It is a little more expensive than other matts so it would be hard to use for multiple display bases IMHO but a worthwhile return on investment for a single diorama base used to photograph multiple subjects overtime.

Thanks for posting the pics of those grass matts.

I think they would work very well if applied over a flat surface painted earth brown or grass green.
