I should be concentrating on finishing the Kondratyev fighter (not to mention the VG Soviet Prowler) but I came across a small MAI light plane project (MAI-58, I think) that had a cranked wing, T-tail and spats and it gave me an idea for adapting the configuration to produce a Soviet COIN aircraft.

These are the kits which will donate parts - an old and damaged La-5 zwillling, a similarly aged Yak-23 and a Hobby Boss P-51. The spats are from an Airfix Stuka. I hope to make a start on this before the end of the week.

Well, I've started cutting plastic. Normally the parts that I use for conversions are either spare but unused or donated by a kit bought for the purpose - this is the first time that I've recycled previously built models and I'm not sure how it'll turn out. Still, it looks pretty much how I intended so far.

This is the basic airframe (less one outer wing), and what will be the T-tail, prior to any filling and sanding. I may reduce the wingspan slightly and I have to decide whether the tip tanks will go at the end of the wing Il-28 style or under the wingtips as on the Yak-23.

I might also recycle the zwilling centre section and have a go at another twin fuselage La-5. This one just wasn't right - the geometry was wrong and the undercarriage was in the wrong place. However, I think that I see a way to make it much more effectively and I have a surplus of Revell kits - - -

Ok McG, you had to go ahead and mention one of my favorite words in the english language! I like the progress you've made so far and I know I'm going to enjoy this one immensely, especially since it has SPATS!

T-Tails are the best!  This already looks fantastic.
