SW P-38 concept

I started this a few months ago. It's the (imo) crappy Revellogram 1/48. Picked it up at micheals with a 1/2 off coupon. I actually tried to make it for real but I got fed up.

I'm thinking the concept is an early Naboo design manufactured for export.  (maybe where the Amidala family built their wealth?) A simple lightweght multi-platform ground assault craft. The nacels can be configured to support a wide range of interchangable weapons from what is shown : unguided rockets (w/ varied warheads), ion cannon, and a plasma turret, to conventional bombs, blaster array(s) and such.

panzer,
My original thought was  that scheme but i may do something else because it's made for export ( maybe bare metal?). The only thing is i can't really do the rebel look cuz it would have been a little to early production ( or did they get a hold of a bunch of old ones and keep them running? ) and i don't know what other worlds or forces colors would be. Any suggestions or examples would be helpful.
also, anyone have a 1/48 astromech or idea what to use to scratch one? i'm not positive i want one on it but i could maybe shoe horn it behind the cockpit.

thanks

Will die without understanding this world.

Alternately, you could be building one of the Cartann "Blade" ships from the X-Wing novel Starfighters of Adumar.  The author, Aaron Allston, only vaguely described them as twin-boom designs, but said in an email that he was thinking of the P-38 when he was writing.

Funny, every time I read about the Cartann 'Blade' fighters, the image of seriously modified SU32 comes to mind. I never once ever considered the P38!!

The A-wing and B-wing don't use astromechs (theyr'e primairily on board for navigation and system management on the fighters) but I dont think it would be too hard to build a R-2 or R-5 using some styrene tube and scraps

I would look through my spares for some 48 or 72 scale plain old bombs.  The larger U.S. Vietnam-era ones with nicely rounded noses.  I have some 1/32 bombs that would be perfect, but I think they'd be too big for 48 scale.

Amazing....I have had a virtually identical concept floating in my head for a year or two, even down to asymetrical weapons in the nacelles!  Great minds, huh?

Mine was (is?) to be based on an Academy 1/72 kit, and it looked like a TRAM turret from a 1/72 Italeri A-6E will work quite well for the astromech's 'head'.  I was going to put my droid in the wing about where you have that box with the cables going to the nacelle, sort of like the installation in the Jedi fighters in AOTC/ROTS.

I really love the look of this and cant wait to see more of it.
So I got that going for me...which is nice....

Thanks, that sounds like a good idea, I didn't think of that.

'Driver,
I kinda knocked that idea around about putting him in the wing also.

I'm still not positive it's going to get 'mech, there might be a laser turret there.

Belated questions, sorry:
- what is the meaning of SW? swing-wing? I would have thought SF for Science-Fiction would depict it better...
- how is this craft propelled? are there rockets at the rear of the booms?
- what about aerodynamics? is this a spacecraft with no air to face?
Sorry if this has already been discussed elsewhere...

PS. I would like to draw it (weaponless) for my site http://www.kristofmeunier.fr/#Sit but... I post them 3 by 3 and I would need 2 other ideas - if someone has other ideas of space P-38?

[the word "realistic" hurts my heart...]

Talos

SW would be referring to "Star Wars" in this case, as the plane is inspired by the Naboo fighters from "Star Wars Episode 1: The Phantom Menace."

Thanks Talos.
Found this with Google, yet.

(I prefer your one by far, almost a P-38 and not just a space twin-boomer)
